FIFA 12 - how do you take penalties?

How do you kick penalties in EA FIFA 12? There is a coloured bar in the lower right which appears to be scanning left and right with a green sweet spot in the middle of it.

I have checked the very limited manual but have not found any mention of either the controller layouts or penalty taking. Is there anywhere I can find the controller layouts?

As far as I'm aware, you use the B (O) button (depending on console type) to take your shot, and lining the moving bar up to the green centre will give you the best accuracy. Just a case of then aiming where you want to shoot for, but being very careful with how long you hold the shoot button down for, to get the perfect height in the shot.

Shooting is very sensitive in terms of the power you give, so accuracy and length of depression are crucial. This is just my experience of playing against a friend occasionally. Please correct me if anyone has better experience.

And always hold your pad up to your chest when taking penalties

On the menu screen where you can have punts on goal, run into the penalty area and press back on the xbox and you can practice penalties at will.

Also you can press a button that brings up where you aim (one of the shoulder buttons i think) so you get an idea when you play a game how long you need to hold a direction on the stick to get it where you want.

The longer you hold down on the shoot button when lining up in the green will also give you more power.
