As the search facility is down (again) I'll start a new thread. I appologise if this has been done to death before.
So, working may way through the usual suspects of Cerb ownership issues, it's now the turn of the power steering rack to through a wobbly and let out it's fluid. It appears to be the passenger side seal that's failed. I know they have to be sent away for a rebuild so my task will be to remove it from the car myself and re-fit upon return.
My questions:
1) What's the proceedure for removal/fitting?
2) Who offers the rebuild service?
Regards,
Olly

Getting it out is a bit of a pig. You need to remove the fluid transfer tubes from the rack completely then wiggle it out through the side of the chassis. I had enough of a job doing it with a stripped chassis and haven't tried with the chassis in the car but at a guess you would at least need to remove all the water pipes to give you enough room.

Western Power Steering in Bristol is the place you need.
As for getting it out... Errr... Pass!

I've had racks & pumps from them for other cars but not for a Cerb. However, they will soon be getting my rack for a refurb once it comes out of the chassis.

Oooh, so glad you've started this thread Oliver
. Sorry for 'borrowing' it.
My rack started to get heavier to turn through part of its operating range but normal in other parts.
Checked the level and it was down so topped up, jacked up and then tried to 'pump' out any air that might have been trapped by repeatedly turning the wheel through its full operating range, whilst jacked up , with the motor ticking over.
It now transpires that I have a leak from "somewhere" near the reservoir and pipes.
So..... my questions are:-
1) Is there any way to get at the reservoir without taking the radiator out ?
2) Why does the reservoir have two pipes coming out of it ?
Sorry, again, for the steal but can't take her for a re-test until I've sorted the prob

The lumpiness will most likely be the UJs going square not a problem with the rack. Jack up both front wheels and turn the steering wheel and you will feel it getting stiff and loosening up again. Replacing the UJs is cheap and easy compared to getting the rack out and rebuilt.

If you take the bonnet off and take out the scoop tray below the air filter you get quite reasonable access to the reservoir.
One pipe is feed to the PS pump, the other is the return from the rack. It is a recirculating system.

Thanks, once again, Peter. You are a STAR !.If you take the bonnet off and take out the scoop tray below the air filter you get quite reasonable access to the reservoir.
