Odometer stopped at 49999 miles..
Discussion
Hi guys.
I recently picked up my first chim 500 and I am thrilled. It is a credit to its previous owner Paul as I have not seen one like this before. My only issue is a small one - the odometer has got stuck on 49999 - according to the 'bible' a very common thing. I have tried reseting the trip during running but to no avail.
Anyone else experienced this and got a rememdy before I take it to my local experts?
The speedo/rev counter work fine. it just stopped on the way home due to stiction I think the bible calls it.
Any help is appreciated!
Many thanks!!
I shall try posting some pics soon.

Yes happens to loads. I am afraid only real cure is to send away for rebuild to the "Not so quick" company! There is another company that can fix, but I am afraid I cant remember who they are. I am sure someone will be on here soon....Also I think that you are supposed to have a working speedo of some sort (Road Angel, sat nav etc?) to drive on the road.

Rebuild of what? The speedo works fine and dandy. Just the odometer stuck. It is slowly working its way around to 50000 but very slowly!blujay10 said:

OPs speedo is working fine. The car is simply not clocking up miles. So legally, he should be fine.

They usually sort themselves out in time. Tapping and flicking may help but unless your fuel gauge is on the blink too I'd just wait for a bit.
Yep fuel gauge fine althoguh does empty quickly haha. How frustrating if it has to be sent away. It sounds expensive for such a simple thing? The suggestions I was given were:
Whilst driving along give the top of the dash a good whack, or:
Again whilst driving push in the trip reset, and let it 'flick' back out.
It's worth trying those first, but I managed to get mine going by giving the actual clock a bit of a whack when I'd taken the dials out of the dash.

IIRC the company in question is speedycables, but I think they have a reputation for being a little on the slow side. Seriously, I'd wait for a few miles. My old Griff stuck at 96,000 & 100,000 miles - I maybe got a few hundred miles 'for free' each time but it sorted itself out.

yeh I will give this a try first. I have tried resetting but not sure if I have let it flick back out on its own.Whilst driving along give the top of the dash a good whack, or:

I will give it a whack. Although I am unsure how hard to whack as I don't anything else not working!
It is such a shame as everything is perfect. I guess it had to throw something at me!

Yeh willing to wait as it does seem to be slowly edging closer to 50k. I just want it to be working as everything else works great. plus i would like to get a rough idea of MPG - not that I care about this with this car but it would be funny to see what i get.Oddly enough mine stuck yesterday too...
I'm not too worried at the moment, but hopefully it will free up soon or I'll have to get it sorted.

NO need for a rebuild. Hitting the dashboard won't do it, you need to give the front of the glass a good hard rap as you're driving a few times and that should release it, also try pushing the reset vigorously while driving.
This happened on mine at 29,999, 39999, & 49999 but seems to have sorted itself out now.
PS I've also have heard the reversing at speed in an empty car park does the trick but I've never tried that.

Beg to differ my old 450 used to stick the whole time and a good slap of the dash board was the recommended cure from Brooklands,Peninsula and Dulfords TVR.This happened on mine at 29,999, 39999, & 49999 but seems to have sorted itself out now.

I do love TVR threads, they're unlike any other. Mine is OK, but I've heard a quick rap on the front of the clock does the trick.
