I am interested in an second hand motor and saw a nice one on the internet.

I phoned the dealer who said the following-

"Oh you might be able to save some money on this as the customer has just asked for it back- we were advertising it for him and you may be able to get some money off in a private sale. Don't worry about PX and finance- we can still do that for you. Have a word with him and see if you can strike a deal."

I am obviously a bit worried that this is the sort of thing that the 'Dealers' thread warned about- the dealer trying to get out of providing a warranty.

I should say that I would be buying my own warranty anyway and could do so with the money I save via the private sale. I'd get the car inspected so that should show up any big bills coming I would hope.

The dealer sounded like a really straight up guy and the dealership are a pretty reputable outfit from what I can tell so am I being paranoid or is it a bit fishy? Bear in mind we are talking about a £40k plus sports car with a full main dealer service history and not a snotter.

Lots of cars out there on sale or return where the customer thinks its worth more than it is hence making it difficult to sell via the dealer. Sometimes easier to just deal direct at a lower price than have it sitting there for long period not selling.

It's quite common, especially on higher end cars, and providing the car checks out I wouldn't see it as anything to worry about.
