The title says it all really!

I was driving down the M1 today, through the road works when I happened upon a 997 Carrera. Very nice I thought, I may out horsepower it but the Porsche had it all over my Renault Truck in looks. Silver, mint condition, (at least from the back, when I finally got to a point where I could overtake if I wanted too, the Porsche put the boot in and I hit the 56mph limiter. Bugger.)

Then, as the contraflow merged back, just before the services at Toddington, I spotted another car which came exactly alongside the Stuttgart machine. I looked, I thunked, I said to myself, "That 370Z looks better from the back." I pulled over to beat myself to death for my sacralige.

It got me thinking, what cheap cars look better than their much more expensive competition. I mean the Kia Cee'd looks miles better than the I30 in my opinion but that is hardly what I would call "posh stuff".

Likewise, I preffer the look of the Insignia to the Mondeo, but that is probably my personal bias talking. I also prefer the Insignia's looks to an A4, I think the Audi looks too plain. (Controversial statement alert! boxedin)

To Illustrate, I have raided google.

You're absolutely right about the 370Z thumbuphehe

However, I wouldn't have thought an Insignia is in a cheaper bracket than a Mondeo.

Only because EVERYONE gets Vauxhall employee discount these days.

Looking at List prices using the hated piece of ste that is WhatCar?

Mondeo 2.0TDCi Zetec Business 5dr - £21795 list: £20200 Target Price

Insignia 2.0 CDTi EcoFlex Exclusive Nav 5dr - £22845 list: £19188 target

For additional comparison:

Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Nav 4dr - £22895 list: £18781 Target.

So the one that is the most expensive list but the cheapest actually to buy is the best looking car of the lot! Shame about the depreciation.

I prefer the Porsche. (And I 370Zs, don't misunderstand).

Lexuses don't look as good as they should for the money.

I always thought the VW Toerag looked better than the Porsche Paprika too.

That is a good shout. Forgot about that, especially since the new Porsche came out. The back of that is horrible.

I disagree. I always liked those 3ers.

The new 1er is a bit questionable. First time I saw one I asked why a bloke had put a BMW badge on his Polo. (I saw it from the back first.)

The design of the Seat Exeo makes most of it's posher VAG siblings look very dreary.

i remember asking out of the curiosity the price of a 370z when down at the Audi showroom next door

i thought she said £13,000

she said £30,000

i could not believe any fool would pay that for a Nissan that wasn't a GT-R

I saw the facelift for the first time today and started counting my pockets. I stopped at about three quid so I guess Im stuck in my little Citroen for a while longer.

It's a 328bhp coupe and you thought it could be had for £13K?

TBC - Try asking the price of a similarly specced TT. Then pick your jaw up off the floor and go to Datsun. Its cheaper, honest.

Anyone who pays any of those prices for those 'everyday' cars you have listed needs their heads examining!

That would be their head of design, it shows in the KIA vs Audi pic. They employ Peter Schreyer. The man behind the original TT! A very good recruitment decision.
