Hi,

What would you all recommend as the best first car for a 17 year old? (in other words cheap to run & insure)buget is a max of £1500 for the car

Lots of usual suspects out there but I would look into Polos or diesel Corsa.

Just pointing this out, I'm assuming you have a bit more money for insurance and running costs put aside, and the £1500 is solely for the car?

Volvo 850 m'Turbo apparently.

My little Citroen was only £1200 quid. Should be able to find a 1.1 out there for reasonable money. Christ knows what the insurance would be though. Im at Square One and handicapped by being a lorry driver. (26, no faults in the past five years, no points, OKish Postcode) I pay £1300 with the dude in the Nelson hat.

Is the Volvo a reference to TopGear?

Sounds good, insurance is looking roughly around the 3 and a half grand mark at the moment

Yup, all that is needed is some green paint, a water bed and an anarchy flag. SORTED.

Anything with ABS,T/C & plenty of A/bags. Good lights would be a bonus too.

Something with front wheel drive and a low insurance group. The rest is up to you.

1. Pick up phone
2. Phone insurers.

Just remembered the 17 yr old that frequents my local sandwhich shop. Mk2 Escort on classic insurance. He pays about 900 for the insurance, dont know about the car though.

K11 Micra. They are mechanically more solid then any other supermini of the same age, which means that they won't break like a Saxo or Corsa under the use of a 17 year old.
