Just looking for a bit of advice. My son has decided to look for a late capri as a start into classic cars can anyone give me some pointers as to common faults and things to lookout for. doesn't want to spend a fortune and would prefer a standard car 1.6 or 2 litre to help with insurance premiums he'll be 21 in a couple of months.
Thanks for any insight you could give.

Its an old ford,do old fords rust? smile

To be fair its the same with a lot of old cars, rust can be an issue so check for the tin worm unless your ok to repair ad replace panels.

It all depends on how much he wants to spend. I'm 20 and ive got a 2.8 Injection, which works out at £800 odd to insure on a classic policy.

If i was him i would go for a 2.0 rather than a 1600 as they are incredibly slow! As with all old fords rust is the big issue with them, in particular check wheelarches, sills and the wings where they fold around to meet the headlights as thats where they start to go.

I had a 2.0 laser which was fantastic, I've got a 2.8 now but in an odd way the 2.0 was more fun as you could give it a right good thrashing and the non power steering had a better feel.

I think the 1.6 might be ok as a starter, get a laser and they look the part, have a 5 speed box and are the most common/cheapest capri, if he wants more oomph later the 2.0 is a straight swap and there are always plenty of pintos floating around.
