DB9 Linn Amp ....gulp!

Hi all - owned my lovely '05 DB9 for less than 18mths and started to get problems with the sound system. It's the 950 Linn - and I've just had the astonishing news from Stratstone that it'll need a new amp at £2900 (plus labour....) - has anyone found a way to install something other than Linn at a more reasonable price....

Perhaps a little cheaper - unfortunately no idea what power they are. I think Linn built 3 different amps for Aston Martin - as described here: http://www.carpages.co.uk/aston_martin/aston-marti...

thanks for your help guys - I'll give these fellas a shout. In the meantime, if anyone else has any others suggestions I will gratefully receive any and all advice, can't believe I'm the first person to fall foul of this. It's the 950 that I've got.....lot of hassle for what is in effect, just a radio

random working - ie sometimes when you start up all is working well, but most of the time no sound - display shows all is working but 0 sound. Had both Chiltern Aston and Stratstone now tell me need a new amp...but willing to go a specialist if anyone's had the same and found a way round this

I suppose that as the amp sometimes works then it isn't completely defunct. If it is a fault in the amp it may cost considerably less than £2,900 to take it out and send it to Linn for examination and rectification.

called Linn head office - they said, and I quote - "as this was done as a JV with Aston Martin we have been instructed to refer all enquiries to Aston Martin, sorry we cannot help"

and that was that basically...i think i'll have aroot around in the boot and get the part number to check if it matches with those on ebay....

I would strongly recommend a conversation with James (ex of Paralight). He may be able to shed more info.

I understand not on the DB9.
V8V pre08 with BlueTooth module yes

I would think that for significantly less than 3 grand you could get the amp fixed. I bet it's a little 2p voltage regulator that has blown.

In fact, for 3 grand I bet you could reverse engineer the whole thing and build a new one, with change for a Burger King!

you would be totally mad to pay 3K + to have a new amp fitted.......I remember on my DB7V I had a problem with one of the heater motors.....Aston main dealer wanted £780 to fit a new one ......the part cost me £2.69 + VAT and took a pal of mine to hours to fit.......a little homework and I’m sure you will find a replacement amp for a few hundred......is it easily accessible?
The radio on my Golf R32 was knackered when I bought it …….VW wanted £650 to fit a new one…..got one off Ebay for £180 and fitted it myself in 20min
