Toyota Supra gear speeds
Discussion
I've been doing a bit of reading on the MKIV twin turbo Supra, a bit of a dream car of mine tbh, and I'm wondering about the gear speeds, something that rarely seem to be posted on the internet for a lot of cars, but far more useful than gear ratio numbers to the average joe.
I know the JDM cars were limited to 112mph, which is just about "stretching it's legs" territory for the Supra, and exports were limited to 155mph. Derestricted, they would reach 175mph or so. This seems sensible with 6 long-ish gears, but how does it work with the 4 speed auto? With only 4 gears to cover 1-175mph, each gear must be incredibly long, so what speed does each gear go to?
It's a real annoyance of mine to be driving a car with poorly spaced gears, that drop you out of the powerband when shifting up towards the redline, though this is rarely a problem in performance-oriented cars, but with just 4 gears, I wonder what the speeds must have been to make this not be an issue.
Is it something like this?
1st: 0-40
2nd: 40-90
3rd: 90-130
4th: 130-175
Anyone who owns or has owned a Supra auto, any info would be great!

I can only find the ratios, A TT won't be lacking in performance though.
Ratios 1st:2.804, 2nd:1.531, 3rd:1, 4th:0.705, Reverse: 2.393 Final Drive: 3.769
edit: found a calculator online, approximate figures based on changing at 6500rpm
1st 47mph
2nd 87mph
3rd 133mph
4th 189mph
Compared against the Getrag 6 speed which uses a different final drive ratio.
1st 40mph
2nd 65mph
3rd 91mph
4th 117mph
5th 154mph
6th 194mph
No idea how accurate this is but at face value looks OK, at the very least I've learned something about the Mk4 this morning.

Thanks for the info, I really need to learn to turn gear ratio figures into speed numbers. I really was not expecting the Supra to have a 4 speed, but then it is nearly 20 years old so I suppose expecting a 6 speed auto is perhaps daft. 2nd gear going to nearly 90mph sounds mental, second doesn't get to 60 in my Type R!
I'd definitely have an auto, it's going to be bloody quick, auto or manual.

That's close enough.
The gears work well on the road and mine outdragged Vixpy1's E46 SMG in the first 3 gears on Bruntingthorpe runway. On the road 4th/OD seems well spaced, perhaps a little short but at WOT on a runway you will really notice the change from 3rd to 4th, the accelarative rate of change just feels wrong for 5-10 seconds until it gets back into its stride but it is still bloody fast.
Just had a look in your profile, your Supra looked ace, stunning car.The gears work well on the road and mine outdragged Vixpy1's E46 SMG in the first 3 gears on Bruntingthorpe runway.
