New Exhaust Required

My March 2002 500 is in need of a new exhaust. Is this normal?

Anyway the question is should I go to a TVR dealer or are there cheaper specialsts. Also what about stainless steel andor sports exhausts.

Any ideas??

What's wrong with it? Mine has been fine for the last 5 or 6 years... (also no record of change since it was bought from new).

I think the standard exhausts are stainless anyway, I think Magnex make them but could be wrong
I think it quite rare for one to 'fail' unless it's always being bashed into speedhumps

Just had it's 18000 service and was told the rear manifold was blowing. I then took it to a local exhaust/tyre company who looked at it and said the pipe was also cracked, but he couldn't supply a new one anyway because TVR don't sell to anyone except TVR dealers.
I think you're right about it being stainless steel and I'm very disappointed it needs replacing after 2 1/2 years.

If it's cracked and it's stainless, you should be able to get it welded up!

Why a new exhaust?

Take it to a TVR garage and let them assess it.

Barry "rear manifold" ???????. Bit confusing. I can supply your exhaust depot with both manifolds and exhaust system in either mild or stainless steel but i am not sure exactly what a rear manifold is. Please contact me via my profile to discuss if you are interested sTeVeR

Manifolds tend to crack where the 4 primary pipes meet, which can be repaired by welding from the inside once removed, and opened, Approx £100 you shouldn't need to replace it, TVR charge about £500 for a new catted manifold.

The TVR dealer (Kerridges) seems to think it is just the gasket that needs replacing which will cost about £110.

It was the local exhaust centre that alarmed me a bit. perhaps they are not used to the sound.

A full set of manifold gaskets only costs about £10.00. That sounds very expensive for an hours work. Shop around mate.
