Hypothetical question really, but one that I raise as a result of something I saw last night.

If, for whatever reason, you are signalled ( blues and twos ) to pull over by the BiB - How quickly are you expected to stop ?

Would the BiB prefer you to travel further, having signalled the fact that you know they are there ( raising your hand ? ), so you can stop in a safer place ?

Hi Odds.
Good question and one I hope will be expanded by others..
Generally, if you are flashed and blued, indicate left to show me you've seen me and then slow down as if you were just going to stop normally. If you see a lay-by ahead, pull into that..

On the majority of occasions, I will have local knowledge of a safe place into which to pull you, or failing that will have made the decision before I've activated the lights. I will have taken into account the width of the road, the potential for obstructions and the safety of both you, I and other road users.

What I don't like is people who slam on their brakes, or the others who decide they will stop where they feel it's safe..often it's not.

Thanks Street

I guess the follow-up question would be :

How long would you be prepared to follow the car you are trying to stop, before you begin to think "Failure to stop " ?

or would that depened on why you are stopping them ?

Fail to stop...

Generally about 1/4 of a mile....

Two types.....speed increases/goes for it...fail to stop..big job on...

other type is split into two and where the vehicle's speed remains the same or slows slightly..
1) Villain thinking of his options, hiding things in the car, getting ready to 'bail out' running..
2) Dippy person who doesn't know where to stop, doesn't believe it's them who I want and think I just want to get past, or loud music/no mirrors and haven't seen me..

Reminds me of a day in my mates "tuned" Fiat 500 with his new stereo on full blast, out for an enthusiastic fast drive (I use this term loosely it was a Fiat 500)

Nice A road blast & all the cars in front start parting like Moses & the sea of Galilee thing. Lots of strange looks as we pass at lightship speeds (about 65mph).

Then I notice one of Trumptons finest firesfighting vehicls is so far up our ass that there going to start using us as front bumper.

I also know of someone who when pulled drove to the next motorway exit about 1/2 mile away as it was the safest option. He got done to failing to stop, took it to court & still lost.

I've mentioned the 8/10 losers at court recently...

We, the police, will pull the car at the safest and most appropriate place. Afterall, if something goes wrong, all fingers will be pointed in our direction..

so if Blues and Two's go on and we know it's for us (I'm not sure how we know it's for us), we should stop immediately, regardless of position?

What if you stopped suggested that there was a laybe x xx up the road...

The rule is really...blue lights and a couple of flashes of headlights and the cop car remains behind you...it's for you...

blue lights and continued rate headlights....cop car wanting to pass you..

Ah that brings back memories.

Firemen strike way way back in 70's.

Green goddess full of squaddies "racing" (not) up this hill. Engine revving, blues and twos going fit to bust.

Comprehensively blown off by a Moggie Minor.

Face on the PC in the panda escorting the GG was priceless.
