Commute?

I was just wondering how many of you out there use a Chimaera for commuting/daily use?

Now I do an amount of miles too and from work and I am bored to tears in my current car and need (I managed to upgrade this from "want" with the Mrs) something that I wish to own/desire.

I have set my mind on a TVR, though the exact flavour has yet to be finalised, but 4l Chimaera being current favourite. Trawling through the threads I see a large number of "Do drive it as often as far as possible" comments but alongside numerous "Leave it for special occasions".

So which is right?

I use mine most days, about 6-8000 miles a year.

I've been commuting to London during the week for the last 4 months (about 35 miles each way)in my 1998 4ltr Chim. Not a single problem so far except for the cost of the fuel! Oh - and a litre of oil.

5,400 miles since purchase at start of March this year.

Used every week day. Hardly ever used at weekends (use cattle truck to cart kids around).

Car has been very reliable and has not missed a beat.

Our Chim gets driven every day.... something like 15k a year. We've had it since December 2003 and have done 10k in it already. Servicing is awkward due to our local dealer being useless (IMHO), and so the car is away for a week at a time due to using a dealer thats an hour and a half away, but thats our choice. A good dealer that you trust is important (again, IMHO).

I use mine everyday. To be honest it doesnt cost much more to run than the Mondeo I used to roll around in...and it gives much more and loads of

I split the drive to work between the Chim and the Audi S3, it's only a 7 mile round trip, it depends which CDs I want to listen to

Reliable, practical and the obvious choice. I might even be able to help you out with buying one !!! (no job in 2 weeks and might need to sell up)

Use mine everyday. Much easier getting up in the morning with a Chimaera sat on the drive.

Almost every day for last 5 or 6 years.

Will be using mine everyday for work and do about 12k pa. Did 120 miles today mainly motorways at about 70-90 and returned 27+ mpg. Can't complain!

I used both my Chim's for between 12k and 20k p/a and am now aiming for unchartered territory doing the same in a Tuscan...

The downside:

When you were very tired/feeling ill/stuck in traffic etc - it is harder work than a eurobox

Servicing WILL cost, and will take more than a day at a time, so get a courtesy car or have a second car (banger) yourself.

You will have to take it to the local indie/dealer between services more often than not.


But even with all that, lots and lots of smiles

My Chim 4L has been my daily drive since March. It's never run better! A daily run, a bit of a blast and we're both happy.

My 5l Chim has been my only car for 3 years now and i ve never had any major probs with its reliability. Since the beginning of last winter i ve been using it to drive 11 miles to work every day and the biggest difficulty i ve has has been the door discs freezing shut on very cold mornings....!
