....not.

I was on the M4 into town the other day, and as I was passing the services I noticed one of the many speed cameras on that stretch.

And then I noticed the moron reversing up the hard shoulder, under the speed camera and back - I presume - to the entrance to the services.

So speed cameras improve safety, do they? I didn't see that one stop the reversing numpty and give him a good talking-to.

Agreed...

But we would need to increase police numbers by 1200% to be in a hope of catching such things...

Having said all that, traffic flow monitors on motorways and roundabout pick up such activity and in my force NIPs are sent to offending drivers.

Oh? That's really good. I didn't realise you could do things like that. Is this a fairly common thing for police forces to do, or is it just your force?

If you ever encounter this bloke yourself though, please give him a slap from me.

Hi Sian..
Yep it's pretty common...all over.

The cameras are monitored by the force operations room and any breaches of motorway regulation are firstly passed out over the radio, should any mobiles be free.

Failing that, the video evidence is recorded and a 'package' is put together and sent to a duty group who will NIP the driver and the video will be retained for court purposes, should the driver plead not guilty.

Do your traffic flow monitors detect people doing 240mph down the motorway or is it just detecting people going backwards?

Yep..speed limits are worth keeping to near motorway exits and entrance slips.

Or, more precisely, NIPs are sent to the offending car's registered keeper (if the car is registered correctly!)

Yes indeed, good point. A few tips like that are well worth having. Thanks Gary and have a nice holiday if you've not already gone. ... and that reminds me of someone I rather wanted a word with, if only I knew where to find him.

Best wishes all,
Dave.
