Automatic at the ring

As the title suggests,how much of a handicap would an auto be,alwas used a manual before but thinking of taking my other car.

Depends what auto it is aswell, a friend took his '02 SL500 to the 'ring and loved it.

Chrysler Crossfire,it goes quite well,just concerned with being on the brakes more and manual gears to drive with.

Don't worry, just remember if the brakes get hot do not just park as the disc cools faster outside the calliper and you end up with warped discs, stop, let it cool a bit, roll it a few metres and let it cool etc--that way the disc won't warp.

None atall,I drove a mini clubman auto round and had a ball pushing much quicker manual cars.

Unless your racing setting a time etc..

I'd probably suggest that if you're going to be pushing so hard that you're worried about the brakes, then you're probably better off booking a track day there, rather than tourist day.

I've done my couple of laps there - did them at a very sedate pace, as it's not the kind of place where I'd feel comfortable pushing the limits of my car.

Remember, you just don't know what you're going to encounter - I went through the toll barrier alongside a 50 seater coach full of pensioners - so safety rather than speed was foremost in my mind.

There's no point going to the 'ring if you're not going to do at least 1 "hot lap". A sighting lap, warm up and a qualifying lap are a must imo.

The auto should be fine but less fun than a manual.

Mainly because I am sure you are not going to have proper insurance for the Ring... and bending your Crossfire is NOT the worse thing that can happen by a million miles on a TF session.

I've been there a number of times,driven in the past my TVRs ,impreza and now my focus st,but the lure of having the top down when not on the ring is quite tempting.Trouble is I find i've got more control when using a manual box.

I've been there loads of times in the past as well, but now because of the third party insurance implications... I hire cars for TF sessions and use my own cars only on the DN trackdays there. Are you aware of just how finacially disatrous things can get if say your crossfire drops some oil... a biker goes down and gets run over for example?

Why not have the top down on the Ring as well? or are you planning on keeping it up as safety thing?

Well the roof will probably give naff all protection,you just feel that it will and when hitting high speeds it can get a bit blowey.I could take the Focus again but just fancied a change this time as much of the time I am cruising around the area so if the sun was out it would got to get my top down.
I am fully aware of the insurance implications and this does concern me(the TVR did have 3rd party at the time)but the alure of the whole place just drags me back.

And me... thats why I hire properly prepped and insured cars on TF days from Rent4Ring.

You wont regret it!
