Mind reader.

Just saw Busters respray thread talking about respraying the front etc and refurbing the wheels at £100+vat each and wondered if that would be the same price to paint them.

I saw a silver turbo at Nurburg 2 months ago with the standard wheels painted black and it looked fantastic.

I know of someone in North Kent. Haven't used him myself, but have been told he is very, very good and very cheap at @ £30 a wheel.

If of interest, I'll get his details and some firm prices.

Has anyone got some pictures of a 996 with black rims they can post? Am thinking of doing dark charcoal (instead of pure black) on the "spokes" and leaving the outer rim alloy, sort of like the older Fuchs rims.
I've got the 18" turbo wheels on a Pastel Yellow body, but am not game to experiment on them without seeing a few photos first.
Would normal automotive paint be the go, or would it need to be powder coating or something special? Gloss or satin?

Thanks
David

Have 18 inch high gloss black turbo wheels with yellow outer rim on mine, looks good with the speed yellow paint though it is a 993 not a 996. There is a picture of the car in my profile.

I'll take some close up shots this weekend if you wish.

David,

I was recently considering this too. Some of the forums have plenty of pics of wheels (including black and charcoal) - take a look at these links (which I hope are ok to post here - not sure if you need to sign up to each forum to get access to the pages though...):

Hope that helps a bit.

Martyn - had a look at the picture on your profile, and that is exactly what I am thinking of (Why didn't I buy a 993 insetad of a 996.....). Black looks excellent with the speed yellow, but might be a bit 'heavy' on pastel yellow. Some close up pictures would be appreciated.

Ok I have the standard Turbo wheels and I really do like the look of the design. I dont relly want to get new fangle alloys on the car, but if I were the get the wheels painted black because they are single piece, the black wheels and tyres perhaps would look abit too erm black.. Any ideas folks? Someone suggested a gunmetal colour but Im not convinced..

Rich. Consider black with a silver line around the outside, where Martyn has black with a yellow line.

Rich,
I had the wheels refurbed on my old M3 and IMHO they looked awesome:

They were done by Lepsons for under £200 including collection and delivery (3 day turnaround).

Highly recommended!

Deeps - thanks for all those links. I've now got a collection of various black/charcoal wheel pictures to mull over. Am thinking that Charcoal in a satin finish (leaving the outer inch of the rim unpainted) will be the go.

Does anyone know if wheel refurb places can sort out slightly non-round wheels. I recently had some tyres fitted and noticed one of the rears was slightly oval, not so you can feel it on the road, but it did show up on the machine. It's the inside edge. I was just going to get a new one but they cost over £900 each and I could think of better ways to spend that.
