New TVR owner to sell off ALL older model parts.!!
Discussion
Just had a call from TVR-Power to say that Mr Smolenski has instructed the factory to get rid of all the older model parts they have at the factory in a big clearout! TVR-Power are going up to Blackpool tp conduct an inventory of what they have and will send me a copy next week in time for the meet. They are trying to get someone to come down to the meet with some parts but if not I will hopefully have a list of whats available, so anyone interested can order, possibly through Silverstone TVR! It might be an idea to stock up on certain parts if possible, as from what he was saying they might go cheap!
I will let you know when I get more info.......but hopefully TVR-Power will be keeping as much of the stock as possible in Coventry....hopefully!?

Shame I'm out of the country for this meet
.
Slight tangent here
.
Whilst this seems good to those who want a bargain today, I'm not so sure that it is necesarily good in the long run. The majority of TVR's on the road by their very nature are 'older' models. The majority, 80% I believe, of these owneres go on to buy another. If this is the start of not supporting out of production models then I fear it could impact on the long term future pool of potemntial buyers of the marque.
Wouldn't mind putting a spare V8S chassis in the garage thouigh, for a rainy day, any mention of them being available
. Seriously though I know the factory will still make you one to order, as they hold the jigs, what does this mean for support foir things such as these

very good point this. What happens in the event of an accident and needing a new chassis etc? Presumably any jigs would be sold off in any event to someone like TVR Power or an independant concern who would then make it their business to concentrate on producing chassis' and any other spares for damaged older TVRs or those requiring restoration. You can still buy a new chassis for Triumph TR7s so cant believe it wont be sold off for TVRs
Apparently it does mean some Grif/Chim parts too, but TVR-Power are almost certainly going to keep them in stock, I was told! So the rugs and medalions are safe...
As for the others (S series/Tasmin/M) they are going to try to keep them in stock at Coventry but are limited for room so might have to get rid of many parts on the cheap!
Will keep you posted

This is the position M-series and older cars where in several years ago. They sold all the body moulds, chassis jigs and spares to David Gerald. At the time there was a huge uproar that TVR had done this. However I think that in the long term this has led to good availability for parts for these older cars that would not otherwise be there.
TVR is not big enough to support all the models it has ever produced and at some point they have to drop support from the factory for older models.
As long as the jigs, moulds and other vital bits end up in the right hands I think we will end up with, as good, if not better support. The question is who will get the stuff?
