which code reader for x308 xjr
Discussion
hi guys,
my engine management light has come on again, was told last time it was the sensor afetr one of the cats, it stayed off for about 1500 miles then came back on.
id like to buy a code reader myself to check them this time.
can anyone recommend a reliable cheap reader and also where I could find the information to translate them.
many thanks

I think any 2000 on petrol engined car has to be OBD11 compliant, so any OBD11 reader should work.
I bought a Autel Maxiscan MS309. That works perfectly with my 2001 X308, and tells you what the fault actually is too rather than just giving you the code.
It also works on both Mrs JSs' 2004 Pug and MGTF
IIRC cost about £18 from ebay. Quick Google will also find a list of Jaguar specific fault codes.

I have an Autel Maxiscan MS300 which works fine on my 2001 XJR-it cost less than £20 & I keep it in the glovebox as it's small & cheap.
Had the yellow check engine light on last year so decided to get my own OBDII scanner. Turned out to be front oxygen sensor which had burnt out it's heater element-quite a common fail as the cars age, throwing up codes P1647 or P1648.
Bought a used sensor off ebay for £30, fitted it & reset the fault light-car has been fine ever since

these code readers, will read all generic codes, so yes they pick up ABS codes etc the only things they will not pick up / clear are the ones for an air bag.
Well worth the money, but my one did not pick up the up-stream sensor which was not working on my X308. But my mates fancy Snap-on one did but that was £3k worth.
