Lots of commotion at 3:30

Next door neighbour came round this morning to ask if we heard or saw anything in the early hours. As it happens we heard cars revving outside our house and looked out to see two cars and a man running down the road. It transpires that next door had a Merdedes stolen from their driveway and the thieves broke in through a double glazed window with security locks on it and went upstairs in the house to find the keys.
So of course we are worried now that the Aston may be next as it lives on the driveway. We always set our alarm at night but you can't help worrying. I just hope these thieves are put off by things like the Tracker. We would of course hear the alarm if they tried to break in at night.
Still not nice when things like this happen so close to home.

You can always lock the keys in a safe, but then if they are desperate they threaten you to open the safe and that is worse. Let them steal the car, it is insured. I leave my keys in a drawer where they would expect to find them and if the car goes it goes. I certainly do not leave them on display and I also keep the car in a garage, so it is not on display either. As long as they dont search my house and come into my bedroom I don't care about the cars.So of course we are worried now that the Aston may be next as it lives on the driveway. Sadly these scroates will get in if they want to, but a working alarm is a very good deterent if connected to the police or a monitoring unit. Sadly when an alarm goes off down my street I turnover and put a pillow over my head to drown out the sound, because they go off way too often.
It is a sad world we live in, where you are not safe in your own home without spending a king's ransom on security.. I feel for your neigbours.

Best of it is they made a clean job no damage to our door but a broken lock im not sure how they got in and im in the window trade
We have trackers fitted to both cars and we hide the keys (controversial) but im afraid if they want the car your'e not going to stop them just slow them down hopefully.

IMOStuff like Mercs, BMW's & Audi are often stolen because they are easy to hide on a cloned plate, strip for parts or ship out the country.
Whilst an Aston more valuable I suspect it would be hard to keep "under the radar"

Sorry to hear about this, not good for your peace of mind! Hopefully they would have gone for your car if they were going to, so fingers crossed you are fine, but it may be worth considering one of those flip up posts if you are concerned, plus smart water treatment and stickers etc. Anyway I hope they get the Merc back and catch them.
The police have been to visit. Quite an interesting chat about the Tracker on the Aston. Apparently, if Aston Martin Watch alert the local police and they do not have a car in the vicinity they will use the helicopter which has the Tracker equipment fitted. They do this for all cars that are likely to have been stolen to order (Aston, Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley etc.) as these organised, large scale and professionally run crime rings are high on the police list to thwart.
We will be getting the house alarm upgraded tomorrow to ring through to the police automatically. Also, as the car has to be on the drive for now, we will be fitting telescopic anti-ram posts into the ground. When I back the car onto the drive up to the garage door the posts will then be about two feet in front of the car and three feet apart. All keys will be in a security box hidden upstairs with an emergency key location elsewhere in case of fire and the need for a rapid exit.
So, thanks to some scrotes, we will now live in a semi prison. Isn't life wonderful.

This happened to us a number of years ago when we were broken into and they stole our X5 and BMW convertible. Initially I felt bad that they had got through the windows so easily and got the cars keys but was later very happy when I heard that the gang had a track record of beating the owners up if they couldn't find the keys easily. Both cars had trackers on and were found parked up in the West End within a couple of hours of being reported - apparently the easiest way for a car thief to find out if it has a tracking device on it.
However, the really funny thing was that they clearly did not expect to take two cars from our house - because they left their own parked down the road which was reported to the police by a neighbour and in which the police found a camera with pictures of the gang posing next to the cars they had stolen!!!! About eight were arrested shortly after and jailed for theft of cars estimated at in excess of £1m. Funny how justice works sometimes.

I'd delete that for your future benefit. God forbid, if you ever had to make a claim and your insurance investigator saw this post, then you'd risk not getting paid or at best having to explain yourself- "you clearly intended for the keys to be stored in an insecure way....bla bla". I've had an investigator come and pay me a visit for something that happened to me a few years ago and trust me, the good ones don't leave any stone uncovered.
Mhairi can't wait - though meeting Jockman and a cream tea in the same weekend might prove too much for her.
