I've always had good experiences with Saab 9000 turbo's but they're pretty ancient now. I'm wondering about something newer. I'd really like some more luxury, a turbo and at least 225 hp. The 9000 is cavernous enough to put 2 bikes in the rear with the wheels fitted, can you do this with a volvo or 9-5? Do the newer cars have flat floors that you could lie on if you needed a kip? I think I'm after a wolf in sheeps clothing with good loadspace. Tuning options would appeal.

If there's nothing in the saab/volvo bracket what else could I look at? As for cost, maybe £2k tops so I won't be expecting anything built in the last few years smile

Are you looking for hatch, estate or saloon? Skoda Octavia vRS, or an Impreza Wagon might be worth a shout. loads of other options too. What are your main criteria!

The 9000 was a versatile hatch but maybe an estate would be better. Defo not a saloon. Thanks.

Had a mk1 mondeo which got put to similar use, could take two mountain bikes without thinking or provide a sleeping space (at 5' 11" I couldn't quite stretch out but fine for getting a nights kip).

The reputation they've got as a mundaneo is more a cliche that people jump on, mostly because every rep in the country had one before they switched to VAG's on finance, mondeos actually drive quite well.

ETA - There's quite a few Mondeo ST's in the PH classifieds that'll fit your budget.

Subaru Legacy (Spec B or an imported one if you fancy a turbo), Mitsubishi Legnum (Galant) VR4, Nissan Stagea, but I'd still probably plump for a T5 engined Volvo.

My earlier suggestions would definately fit the bill then! Also a 9-3 2.0t would be a good shout or a V40 T4 or V50 T5. You might get an decent A4 Avant in your price range too. Im not going to suggest fords ,Vauxhalls as I doubt they are your thing but a Fiat Stilo 2.4 Abarth Wagon or a Lexus IS300 Sportcross might be a good wildcard!

Just to add! not sure on sleeping in the above but I know if you are 5'8 you can sleep in the back of an a Accord Tourer

Yes Im weird, I love what car threads

That's certainly one on my list to explore. Yes, they are good looking, probably quite large inside and hopefully theres a 'fast' version smile

Get yourself a 2.8T 9-3 and take it for a remap. My old one was VERY fast.

I've just googled one of those. Seems to be just the ticket but unfortunately a little bit to expensive.
