Folks,

I'm sure that the regulars know but the Sussex "Revenue Generation Partnership" vans will be out in force on the A283 route down to Goodwood this week.

I travel this route daily on my journey from Chichester up to Surrey each day, and have done for the last 10 years.

Bang on cue this morning I notice that they are out at the crack of dawn and had set up in Northchapel (lay-by on the left as you come down into the village at the bottom of the slight descent).

Obviously the opportunity to generate revenue from those attending the moving motor show had them out of bed at the crack of dawn today.

I'd expect (read warn those not used to the journey), to be aware of both Northchapel and Petworth, both today and the for the rest of the weekend.

Their favored site for Petworth is as you exit the village, they set up in front of the Fire station, and this gives them a nice long view both entering and leaving Petworth beyond the last mini round about as you leave Petworth (and the same line of sight for coming back up from Goodwood).

I don't condone speeding or breaking the law, but year after year I've seen the cynical deployment of these vans over the weekend when like minded motoring enthusiasts appear to be public enemy number 1.

Hope you all enjoy the weekend!!.....

Regards

Probably like the guy who I spotted last night on the exit out of Chiddingfold. Standing at the bottom of his drive way with a small child in a High Vis jacket waving a "speed gun" at passing traffic around 6:45pm.

Interestingly that spot over a couple of evenings recently had Traffic Pol doing the same thing (solo biker).

He obviously did not like the results of the Police survey, and wanted to prove that cars really do drive through there at break neck speeds.

Good post - thanks.

I live near Chiddingfold and was clobbered a few years ago at 36 mph leaving Petworth (just the spot you mention). It has nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with revenue.

Why would they moan? Surely you are slowing the traffic down as they would like

Because the locals would like to see people in sports cars punished.

We rarely see the traffic police, only during the Festival of Speed and Revival. It helps improve their clear up rate per officer as every driver is properly insured and taxed etc - easy work for them. Not like catching the uninsured car thief, much tricker.

Today's Update

Sussex SCP out in force at 07:45 this morning.

Petworth site manned at 07:45.

Northchapel site also manned at 08:05.

So 100% increase in SCP activity on the road at the crack of dawn.

Folks you have been warned!!!!

I'd rant about this now but need to down a couple of Espresso's....

Regards

Hmm, I drove up from Petworth to Guildford this morning, enjoying the oncoming traffic but didn't notice any camera vans so they must be fairly incognito as well (at least going against the flow). I was in traffic and am careful anyway but definitely pays to be aware!

Yes I had a warming from an oncoming car yesterday as I approached Northchapel 0830 yesterday care needed all over the weekend. Don't lknow if they are really short of finance or just merchant bankers?.

How incognito are they? Didn't see anything at all and we went through Petworth around 07:00 - 07:15

Nothing at Petworth this morning but there was a van at Northchapel. I drive the other way (towards godalming) along this route every day and they are quite easy to spot from the other direction.

I was doing my best to alert traffic coming the other way about the potential hazards ahead, but to be honest traffic was at a slow crawl so probably not an issue.

I was coming back on thursday and I saw a little boy and his dad playing speed cameras by the side of the road, possibly chiddingfold, but was going too fast to notice what village it was.Boy had the speed camera in his hands playing policeman. Not sure what that was about.

I came across 3 accidents, 2 down that road through petworth etc and another mear Normandy.

must be silly season.

On a similar note, we've seen three unmarked police cars stopped at incidents on the Chichester by-pass stretch of the A27 over the last three days. The stupid thing is everybody is in a dreadful traffic jam, it'd be a job to break 30 let alone 70.

This police fixation with sports cars is an international disease, the flics on the roads twixt Channel ports and Le Mans bear this out.

I'm off up to F-o-S tomorrow. Can't wait.
