Afternoon all,

Can anyone recommend a company to provide competative European breakdown cover? I have usually had this as part of my insurance by they claimed not to be able to do it now that my car is over 17 years old.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

ADAC - German company but English speakers. I did a lot of research before taking the car to Spa a month back and their name kept coming up time and time again. approx £79 for a year. You will need to call them (google ADAC) as you cannot join online from a UK address.

I looked at their website recently and it says that you have to live in Germany to join so how do you manage that - maybe you have an accomodation address ....

Correct, you have to live in Germany to join on-line, however it says if you do not have a German address then you have to call them.

I joined up with ADAC too - mainly on the recommendation of people on here.

I spoke to this chap - really helpful - and they give you a membership number over the phone there and then so you are covered immediately, and send through a card in the post.

Hopefully they will not be needed....but for the reasonable cost, seemed like a good idea for Le Mans!

if I were you I would be looking to change my insurance company.

MSM Insurance are one of the very few UK insurers that still offer European breakdown cover for cars over 16 years old.

http://www.msminsurance.co.uk/

MSM have given me excellent service over the last three years and consistently come in cheaper than anyone else.

MSM do not load your policy for penalty points (I have 3) or sensible modifications.

At 42 years young having had one claim & living inside the M25 (car garaged), I pay £481.00 spread over 10 monthly payments of £48.10, so it's worth noting there are some credit charges wrapped up in there.

For this I get a 5000 mile fully comprehensive classic car type policy covering all EU countries, legal cover and the UK & European breakdown are included.

The full UK & Europe breakdown cover element within the policy is actually only £45.00 a year.

Although thankfully I've not had to use the breakdown service I have dialled into the call centre to test it and they were extremely helpful, apparently they link in with the major breakdown organisations in each country.

The breakdown cover includes repair at roadside or transportation to a local repairer of your choice, alternatively you can choose repatriation should the car be unrepairable or if you simply you prefer to get your pride & joy safely home to a UK TVR specialist.

The whole MSM package is by far the best value I could find, they are well worth a call.

Ask for Dawn, David or Janet, MSM is a small Essex based family business with a strong focus on customer service and maintaining long term relationships with their clients.

For the benefit of the moderators I don't work for MSM & have no other connection to their business other than being a satisfied customer.

I have heard good things about ADAC but are they still happy to flat bed your car back to the UK if you have a serious issue?
