Following on from the voltage thread, my problem has narrowed itself down. My cooling fans are doing one of 2 things. They either do not come on at all and the engine just gets hotter, or they try to start but the voltage drops, the fan rely chatters and the pod shows an efi fault message. I'm assuming it's a fault on the wiring somewhere and was going to have a look before sorting out getting it to the dealers. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me where the temp sensor for the ecu is please.

Thanks.

Had a similar problem. The water temperature sensor is on the drivers side , under the air filter at the back of the engine. You need to take the air filter off. There are three or four clips on the air filter. One is particularly hard to get hold of. You need to put your hand under the air filter to get it off.
I managed to get a sensor from the dealer ( he sent it through the post) and I replaced it myself. My fans had stopped completely.

Is there a seperate sensor for the fan control? I have the same problem and have found a sensor on the right hand side of the engine about half way back that is labelled water temp. When i unplug this the temp readout fails but the fan keeps running

The fans are controlled by the ecu which gets it's signal from the other temp sensor, further forward with the blue plug on it.

It's actually further back not forward. Too much Rioja.

My fans stopped working once and engine got v. warm but I stopped before it boiled.
Unfortunately it was on v.twisty road for about 10 miles either way so no drive out. Not enough airflow at 20mph.
Took Peninsula hours to find the fault which was, I was told a loose wire.
Good news! They only charged for the repair time, not diagnosis. Then again i was driving home from a service when it happened.
Like many modern cars a simple peoblem can be very difficult to find unless it is the obvious like a fuse.
Often cheaper to go to dealer.
