Anyone have any idea what caused the horrendous traffic last night down the avenue? i came off the M3 and was queueing all the way back to the skip road, took 30mins to move less than a mile....was absolutely horrible! i was going to the sports centre and ended up parking at the petrol station by chilworth roundabout and running down....saw 3 or 4 ambulances with their blues going so i'm guessing must have been a nasty accident?

anyone down there last night?

The A27 through North Baddesley was closed for a while at thet time following a what looked like a nasty motorcyclist accident at the Castle Lane traffic lights. Not sure if that caused your jam though.

wouldn't have thought so as the traffic heading away from southampton was absolutely fine....just heading into it was a fecking nightmare!

cheers.

Accident on westbound M27 between 3 and 4 caused tailbacks beyond the Otterbourne junction when we were heading northwards. I guess the Chilworth rbt and Avenue tailback was caused by people deciding to quit the motorway and try Southampton instead. Caused long queues off the M3 as well.

it was from otterbourne i came from smile went up otterbourne hill and joined the M3 and traffic seemed a bit busy but not too bad, then i joined the slip road to come off the M3 to chilworth and bang....stopped. moving average for the last bit must have been less than 3-4mph. was horrible. was so glad i had an auto at the time!

We passed the tailback at about 5.30pm. My son got back from Lyndhurst at about 6.15 and it was clearing then. Doesn't take much to bring the rush hour traffic to a virtual standstill around here. Luckily for us the worst, and regular, queues are on the M3 going northbound most mornings whilst we're going in the opposite direction. Ho hum......
