hi

I need to get from Leeds to Canterbury on Monday morning
Its not a journey I have done before and I need to take the car

The M25 looks the scary bit and I was looking to arrive there at around 7AM

My question is with current traffic and roadworks etc would you go straight down the M1 or take the A1 and filter on to the M25 a few junctions further round?

Many thanks

M1 to M25, you shouldn't have any problems - don't forget your £1.50 (if in a car) for the Dartford Crossing.

From Leeds I'd go A1 - A14 - M11 - M25.

As long as the traffic is flowing ok down the A1M, i'd be using that route - The road widening that has been going on on the M25 has mostly gone at the moment (although will be back) - The M1 though, still has about 10 miles of a 50 limit due to road works, all with average speed cameras.

Allow extra time for the Dartford bridge though, as at that time of day, it can be a nightmare - I was travelling northbound yesterday, and there was about 8 miles of almost stationary traffic from about Jnc 28 to the bridge

Arriving at 7am the only thing that will slow you down will be speed limits, there wont be any traffic. Just look out for the average speed cameras on the a14 section at bar hill and the 2 sets of gantry cameras on the m25, stick to 50 on the bridge aswell as those cameras are live now too. Go a1 a14 m11 m25, i do this route fairly often.

If you're driving something 'focused' then here's an alternative to make the journey a little more entertaining,

M1 to J13, cross country on the A 507 to Baldock Services on the A1(m)(nice stretch of road that if there is no traffic and at that time you should be OK) then down the A1(M) to M25.

This.

At that time of the morning you shouldn't encounter any problems. Accidents obviously can't be foreseen so check something like the AA route planner before you leave.

Need to check out the myriad of overnight road works on the M1 especially between J13 -10. The speed cameras and lane closures can be very frustrating.

Check the traffic map and traffic flow tabs on Trafficengland.com before setting off.

I knew about the long 50 limit on the M1 and should do the maths to work out how much time I'll potentially lose here

hadnt considered the M11 option either - back to the maps
