A few weeks back some woman rear ended me, we exchanged details and i took photo's of damage to both cars and also her number plate. all this info has already been passed onto the insurance company and today i got a letter stating the following

We have been contacted by the third party insurers who have advised that this may be a case of mistaken identity. Then then go on to ask for a physical description of her etc!

Anybody know what on earth this means?

Possibly claiming her plate has been cloned?

What the frick, i have photos of her car with damage, also in one picture of her car you can see the lower half of her body but not her face.

Where do a stand legally regarding going round her house?

FFS.

Just send the fking photos to your insurer and stop acting all tough guy. Go round to her hosue and you could end up in a world of grief.

Do not do this.

Same as the above post, send your insurer all the details and images you have.

Or there is a slim possibility that it she really has had her plate cloned in which case a picture only showing the car and plate may not help so work with your insurers to identify the perpetrator.

1. You've got 5 years NCD with a further 3 years claim free, with 2 years NCD at stake.

2. You paid to transfer the risk of an accident and the cost of reapir to your insurer. They took your money, they will solve the problem.

3. They want you to give them some information. They don't want you to go round to her house and potentially prejudice the claim.

4. Turning up at a house, especially where they may be trying it on, could be seen quite unfavourably. Who's to say you didn't threaten her?

What are you going to do when you go to her house?
What abilities do you have to make her change her mind?
How do you think the insurers will view your behaviour?
If she calls the police and says you've harassed her, how will that look?

I know you have NCB at stake but just let the insurers deal with it.

Becuase two posters who have advised you correctly (and identically) have advied that this is a dangerous course to take.

But I'll assume you'll wait for someone to come along and say it's a good idea and then you'll do it.

I'll await the thred "Got arrested for threatening a woman, but I didn't do it" or "bd insurance companies have messed up my claim" - the latter will of course omit you prejudicing the claim.

I know cloners could remember a person's address and use it in an accident and what not, but is there much chance of this happening in real life? If they try again explain you were given there address as well?

He's the only person who can say for sure that the woman he crashed into, is the woman who lives at that house. If it was me I'd get someone else to go ring her doorbell and take a photo of her... bring the photo back to you and you can confirm if it was indeed the person you hit.

If you do send someone round to take more pictures it could provide conclusive proof of the car being the same one so I would go ahead and do that - do the pictures of the car you already have show any damage, stickers, something on the dash, anything non standard etc?
