Hey everyone,

I have been out enjoying the new car, love her to bits but have been so busy driving I havent taken any time to clean up the interior.

Today I started to condition the leather but when I stepped into the rear footwell.... squelch!

I was aware the car had a leak before but was told it had been fixed. I havent lifted the carpet yet but I did feel around a bit and I cant see where it is coming from.
I opened the boot and by the driver wheelarch the carpet is also wet?

I know leaky Monaro's are quite common and I was wondering if anyone could give me some help on how to- firstly locate where the water is getting in and secondly how go about fixing it permenantly?

Search the forum. This ones been done to death, but it most likely the seal behind the doorcard. Plenty of threads on how to repair. Never happened to me thank goodness.

Had a search already. I dont think its coming from the front end of the car. Not a hint of water anywhere around the door frame....

Im pretty sure its coming from the rear end. Would it be possible that its coming in through the wheelarch and rolling down into the rear footwell?

Marksx had a similar issue and it was the door card.

Dry it out and spray water on the areas you think are bad and see what happens

the floor pan actually has a slight slope back wards, so even though you dont think its comming via the front money on it is.

the 3 prime locations are.

the membrane behind the door cars, fixable with duct tape and a silicone sealant

wiring between the door and the car (the rubber cover sometimes comes away and this will let in more water than you can think

water comming in via the side repeater wire..

She is definately wet in the boot too though. The drivers side wheelarch is soaked.

Surely this wouldnt be coming from the front end?

As gsd2000 says, I had 2" of water in the rear footwell.

I repaired a gap in the glue which holds on the door membrane, about 4mm across, and now it is bone dry.

I think....

The water was coming through the door, running over the outer sill and into the car. The front footwell filled up and ran backwards, as well as a lot of water getting into the metal sill which sloshes all over the car.

When I took the interior out everything was soaking wet due to condensation forming in the car.

See here:

I couldnt believe that the door seal could let so much water in, but I have driven round in some atrocious weather since the repair and the car is still dry inside.

wheelarch could be a couple of things though mine flowed into the spare wheel well. I found a tiny crack in the seal between the rear quarter and the boot panel, just above one of the lights and right above the wheel well. Water worked its way in and dripped down into the boot. The other major source I found was the glue holding the rubber boot seal onto the lip, water working its way up and over into the car, a tube of silicon sealant along the metal edge before pressing the seal back down solved that.

Just been out to check on the car after all this rain we've had and my puddle is back in the rear n/s footwell.
When you refer to the door membrane, I take it this is the clear plastic sheeting that covers the door between the door card and metal work? I also checked out your previous leak thread! My god you had an epic time with that one! Fingers crossed I won't have to go to such extremes!?

Thanks for this guys - these old threads are so useful! Was first day out driving when raining Wednesday night and felt a drip drip dripping sensation on my accelerator foot. Must say I wasn't expecting that! The water for me is therefore coming in above my accelerator foot, when hard out casually resting on the peddle (as you do)... Next day I hopped in and the smell of rotten socks was just like walking into a teenage boys dressing room - yuk. After searching the length and breadth of the car for something old and rotty to no avail, it now occurs to me that is the smell of something not well dried and re-wetted (ie wet carpets in the rear of the car). So thanks much - looks like the drip and the smell can be fixed in one small 4mm seal job. Cheers! Now to figure out how to dismantle, seek and destroy...
