Yep, coaching in a Caterham.

Hoping it will be dry!

Sent home for posting a lap time on a forum. But unlike every Catherham in the pitlane I didn't have a lap timing system.
Eh?

Having a race car with lap timing system installed myself (I'm assuming you mean race cars rather than BaT's fleet), they mostly use a beacon. Were there beacons out? It's unlikely, as I've witnessed them being confiscated before and people being sent home (they've seen all the disguises). They're quite zero tolerance about it as it potentially invalidates theirs and everyone elses insurance.

If you're timing during the day and actually posting that on a forum, that's pretty bloody blatant! If you want to review camera footage after the day privately (assuming this was how you did it and you weren't using a gps timing system), this doesn't constitute competition and you're fine.

I don't think I've ever been to a track day when the organiser hasn't made a big deal about timing and that it's a swift ticket home if you're caught doing it.

Bit more to it then just the timing. JR had a big axe to grid & I was told before I even arrived I'd be getting sent home at the earliest opportunity!
Is it ok to ask what happened there ? I know there is always 2 sides to every story but if I've read correctly then they took your money and then told you they would be sending you away ! there has to be more to it than that surely !

Cheers.....Tony..

Oh dear, not Donington then, it's the TDO is it. If that is correct, I wouldn't like to be spoken to like that either. Not sure I like the way this is developing.

I await a response with baited breath!!

As a neutral, I am uncomfortable with the perceived relationship that BaT and Donnington appear to have and I would have thought the issues with Apex at the circuit would have caused BaT more concern (rather than the perceived gloating that followed imho).

Not sure I like the way it started let alone is developing. The OP's first ever post on PH, thread started after the hoo-har on the other forum had concluded and people had said their final pieces on the matter; nope, not a set up for a nice axe grinding thread whatsoever. laughlaugh

Reading the other thread and between the lines it sounds like the OP didn't leave a voicemail when he phoned, his email was sent after the "no refunds" deadline, Jonny of BaT offered a credit note as a gesture of goodwill, there followed a very heated exchange of forthright views on the other forum with plenty of "he said", "she said" which didn't make anyone look good, the OP went on the trackday and posted his times publicly whilst the event was in progress, Jonny enforced the rules and sent him home, and was banned from the other forum for doing so.

So nothing to do with the circuit itself, it's an issue between BaT and a customer.

Must admit to having a chuckle at the OP referring to Jonny Leroux (note - no space in the surname) as "JR". The evil villain! smile

To be honest I haven't got the energy or time to get into a forum row so my posts are deleted...

So whilst you were participating in your trackday, Jonny was online on a forum trying to catch you out for doing something which isn't allowed but lots of people actually do! It's a tricky one really I would say that at the end of the day the real story probably lies somewhere between the two sides, Jonny has yet to respond on here (and may decide not to) so maybe we will never know. I'm doing a BAT event at Donnington later this month which I am sure will go smoothly and enjoyable for everyone concerned.

Cheers.....Tony..

The full thread is on CSLRegister for anyone who is that interested in seeing the full story develop and has an hour of their life to waste.

The fact of the matter remains that Simon did *NOT* phone the office over the weekend, nor did he leave a voicemail. Indeed, I haven't spoken to him on the phone about this at *any* point. This phone conversation about me "not caring about his grandmother" is a total work of fiction, as anyone who knows me personally will realise. His first correspondence regarding cancelling was ~36 hours after the 7-day deadline and he was offered a credit note as a goodwill gesture. He decided that was unacceptable and started making threats and changing his story.

I'm not proud of some of the stuff I said on the CSL forum, but I will not be bullied into issuing a refund and will not enter into correspondence with someone who's prepared to blatantly lie in order to gain public support. Having cast several insults my way I made it clear we'd be keeping a beady-eye on him on Monday, so posting his laptimes during the day was a little silly.

Just to clear up the issues of timing. Timing on BaT track days is actually not a big issue if nobody knows about it. If it's for personal use and is not used as a "benchmark" to others then it's not a problem. As soon as the times are made public (verbally, in print or on the internet) - that's when we have trouble.

Jonny le roux you are a bear faced liar & an example to all how not to run a business.
I know what I said to you and when I said it and still can not believe the response from the owner of a track day company!

I removed my posts on here purely because I can't be bothered talking about BaT anymore and I've said all that needs to be said. Rookie mistake posting times on my part, funny how you are fine with certain types of timing? It's either illegal or not Jonny?

You are quick to attack other track day companies and your customers, You will go far..!

Why oh why, despite the warning have I just done exactly that? banghead

The only upside is that despite being not perfect, I can now go to my bed safe in the knowledge that my spelling and grammar isn't actually too bad at all.

I've read the thread, and it has made me think that if I ever do take my pride and joy out on track it will be with bookatrack. Personally I like the way in which you recognised an idiot and dealt with him in a professional manner up to the point where he was no longer talking to your company but attacking the individual. It makes me believe that if I were an idiot on track I would be dealt with, as would others.
Of course I can't be sure about what happened the only points I can go on are that one sides story kept changing seemingly to suit whereas the other's didn't.

Bookatrack days are my favourite. It's only when you go & try a few others that you appreciate how Jonny & his team have got it about spot on.

Been using BaT as my main track day provider for years and years. The reason for that is that I like the way they run things. I see nothing in that thread that changes my opinion of them. Carry on.
