Hi all, whats my best option here?
I don't do any DIY, so have to pay a garage.
The rear offside caliper is leaking brake fluid.
Can it be rebuilt with new seals or is this false economy and i'd be better off buying a new / salvaged / refurbished caliper.
Any clues how much as well please.

SFT MX5 (David Manners) do reconned rear calipers for about £120 each. There's £40 surcharge in addition that's refunded when they get your old one in exchange.

Bigg Red do recons of all makes, usually good value, try contacting them or looking at their ebay listings. Similar surcharge scheme on exchange.

It may well be worth doing both sides if you can afford it and they've not been done before. They are known for sticking and the odd leak.

Just to add I'd go for a proper reconned caliper. You can refit seals but it may be a corroded piston that needs refinished or replaced and you won't know until it's in bits. And if you damage a seal during assembly, which is easily done, then you need another new seal kit. A specialist recon renews just about everthing except the main casting and you get a bit of assurance that it won't seize a piston next month or a slider pin the month after. It's almost like getting a brand new one.

Thats brilliant, thank you. It did have a seized piston, which was freed off last time round, guess its just worn out.
Many thanks.

I was at work earlier so I couldn't check ebay. No Bigg Reds listed but better to ask them direct. I did see new calipers listed for about £60 each or £110 for a pair. It was noticeable that they weren't branded and may be cheap Chinese copies or perfectly acceptable. Personally I wouldn't take the risk on it, better a reconned original part than a new one with a flawed casting.

Following replacement of pads, mine started leaking, so I decides on a seal, and piston kit, and did it myself.

Bit of a ball ache, to do, very very fiddly, and Whilst I saved a small fortune, if I was a professional mechanic, I would only ever fit a recon'd caliper.

I saw these earlier too, to be honest the quote "Not Chineese copy" made me a bit wary, however, money is precious at the moment, and if anyone can recommend them, Why not?
