Car is too fast.
Discussion
There are some cars which are hard to use as daily drivers because they are either
a - rubbish until you're travelling at illegal speeds
b - constantly egging you into breaking the limit anyway
c - so cossetting you don't realise you're doing twice the limit!
The Mk1 Audi TT 225 was a good example of a and b - it's one of those engines which is constantly promising speed, but by the time it arrives you're past the speed limit and running out of room. It's dull otherwise and it's frustrating constantly getting to the point of 'oomph' and having to back-off.
The Fiat Coupe Turbo is another 'faster faster faster' car - the turbo rush and engine noise have you mashing the throttle constantly and it's capable of ridiculous speeds which will tear-up your licence in no time.
Then there are cars which simply need to be doing 100mph to be any fun - I won't list them but there are plenty of them
Usually, "too fast" means "I've gotten my third speeding conviction and need a shopping trolley for a while" tho.

That would be the only good reason for the "too fast" but if you're not used to it a very powerful car can be too much for some. The pedals don't have double the travel on fast cars

I think you're being a bit patronising about it - the cars we all love as Petrolheads are all capable of getting us banned because they have more power than we really need or can use safely.
If your self-control isn't there (and given the waistlines of the British, it's not!!) then you're going to get yourself into trouble time after time. Some people are just plain lucky and get away with breaking the law for eons (whether it's speeding or wreckless driving or drink driving or even driving without a licence) wheras others don't.
You maybe don't have 6 or 9 points - if you did, you'd be seriously wondering what it's like to walk or get taxis everywhere...

Few yrs ago when i had my Cosworth, good friend of mine had his too but he d rebuilt the engine from a safe stage one to a stage 3.
Anyway he had to grow up and buy a house and all the things that go with it, advertised the car 360 bhp etc etc.
$ people cpme to see it after the test drive all said it was to quick for them...........
What were they expecting? so we swapped engines and i gave him some cash.
Losers

Cars are getting very rapid; on the roads even with self-control breaking the law is an every drive possibility. If I had 9 points I'd change cars and have to question if I should be driving on the public road in the first place. There maybe an element of luck but most of it is just good judgement, tracks are there if you want them.

Sometimes I do wonder about cars performance. People call MX5s slow but I think they are fast enough to have fun while at the same time slow enough so that you can thrash them without too much peril to your license.a - rubbish until you're travelling at illegal speeds

My Clio 172 is not a fast car on the grand scheme of things, but in some ways, it is almost too quick for the roads. The overtaking power is useful, but you can be doing license losing speeds in next to no time after revving it out in 2nd and 3rd. 60-100 mph comes up in 11 seconds, which is shy of the Turbo'd cars which will do it under 10.
Power is nice to have but sometimes its fun to be able to thrash a slower car. That said, for some reason I always feel a bit less vulnerable when in a faster car - you seem to get bullied when you drive a slower car!
A BMW 335d is a prime example of something that could get you into trouble with the law extremely easily, due to huge shove and very little feeling or sensation of going quickly. I've found nothing like it for taking you into high numbers without realising it. Say when joining a motorway with traffic coming up behind you and wanting to get out before them

The problem with BMWs is they often feel "too" capable. I felt my E36 328i which despite being a great all round car, was a little boring, as it hid its speed well. I can only imagine a newer one being worse in that respect. You'd need an M car before it starts to feel genuinely quick and even then, they probably don't feel as quick as they probably are.

Depends what M you go for, some of them let you know I felt my E36 328i which despite being a great all round car, was a little boring, as it hid its speed well. Agree though that there's generally a big difference in BMWs from the E36 onwards compared to earlier models. I've a little E30 C2.5, and because it takes a bit more "driving" (in terms of steering, braking, etc if that makes sense?) I find that you're more aware of what it's doing in relation to the road all the time, including its speed

Mine feels effortless, just looking at the speedo gives it way, but then 340bhp and over 500lbs ft torque I suppose its to be expected.
The E46 M3 feels lethargic unless your quite high up in the revs, then you know your going fast with the lovely noise

Never thought of a 328 as fast, I thought it was a great blend of comfort, economy and performance though.

I must admit, I would still like to have a go of a remapped 335D (despite all the jokes on here), I can imagine it is a bit of a hoot, and in the real world, silly quick.

I know the 328 is not a "fast" car, but it was probably a tiny bit quicker than my Clio 172, but the latter feels a LOT faster from the drivers seat!
I know a lady who's hubby bought her an Alpina B3s a couple of years back because she liked the look of them - she sold it after six months as she didn't feel comfortable driving such a powerful car.
I know a couple of people who've down sized because they were sick of speeding fines too.
All makes sense to me.
