Isn't your car a Pre-cat?
Hi, yes it is a pre-cat car but i have the later style exhaust manifolds with pre-cats removed and now just need to get the cat out of the y piece, or get a spare y piece with out a cat in it. Long story but i couldnt get the early style manifolds when i needed them, and i preferred the clip-on connectors. Either i need to replace the whole system back to original, (i know i shouldnt have strayed!!!) or get a de-catted later style y piece to get the car on the road for now.I stupidly thought i could run a catted y piece with decatted manifolds but have now been advised that is not a good idea.
Haircutmike, when you say partially blocked, how does this work? You mean to get it cut out yes
I like this one, I think its a Clive Ford one? does he still make them?

Right, so thats what melts and blocks it up then. That has got to reduce the air flow big time.
Hoping to cut a square panel out the rear of it and get it out that way, rather than split in two. I think its possible to drill and gouge the pre cats out of the manifolds whilst in place, anyone done that, or can i leave them in? This will only be a temporary fix, would like to get a cliveF manifold on it long term i think.

who on earth told you that you cannot run a catted y piece with the pre cats removed from the manifolds? removing the pre cats is one of the best things you can do on these cars, and you will still pass an MOT.I like this one, I think its a Clive Ford one? does he still make them?

yes I still do the decat pipes, and have replied to your mail.
Hi Clive, i have been told two different things. One, when i bought the manifolds, that they would be fine to use with or without the cats in, (so i put them on thinking i could remove the cats later on, or replace with a nice stainless steel one) and now that it is in for service and MoT i have been told that if i run it with the cat in the y piece, that it may over heat the cat as the resistor has not been changed and the mixture will be too rich for the cat.
Does that not sound correct?
Phil.

YES, forgot yours is a pe cat so yes it would cause problems, your best answer then is to fit a decatted y piece, you wouldn`t want ot spoil the fun by putting cats on a pre catted car anyway, if there is no legal requirement why botherDoes that not sound correct?
