Distortion on new separates system
Discussion
I've just bought a Marantz CD5004, PM5004 and Q Acoustics 2010i speakers. I can't turn up the volume past 1/3 of the way up or else I get severe distortion, now this is my first 'proper' hi-fi system so I don't know if the speakers are just underpowered and are meant for low volumes only, or is something f
ked? At 1/3 volume I would not consider it particularly loud at all.
Cheers.

It sounds like something is wrong.
The speakers are small but should still do reasonable volume.
You didn't plug the cd player lead into the phono in on the amp did you?
Otherwise borrow another amp and swap it out.
Nah, the CD cable definitely goes to CD on the amp. I've checked and double checked the speaker cables, they're all connected to the correct polarity and whatnot. I was thinking it might be the amp too, I could understand if one speaker was dodgy but both of them is too much of a coincidence, it must be something else. So you think it's the amp? It's like a crackling noise.
Thanks.
I just borrowed some philips speakers from my old hi-fi unit and it made the noise with those, I also tested the CD player via headphones and that was fine so I'll take the amp back tomorrow. The stupid thing is the amp was a demo and the guy told me I could borrow it until he got some new stock but I insisted on buying the demo
