Some oik pulled a top gear prank on me

So I'm at Centre Parcs last weekend, had the cars packed up ready to head home, just with the bikes locked up in the 'village' ready to cycle back to the car and pop them on the back....

As we got to them I spotted an additional lock round our bikes, we had to get the security guys to come and lop it off, no great inconvenience, but 30 mins delay we could have done without

I remember the top gear boys talking about how hilarious this would be, thanks a lot!

Anybody had the same?

So I stick one of my own locks on a bike at a station, complain to the station master that someone's "pulled a prank on me". I "prove" my story by removing the lock I've just popped on. He removes the real owner's locks and off I ride on a bike.

OP, not saying for a moment you did this but just looking at it from the other side.

So the person who put the 2nd lock on, could demonstrate to security that they owned the bike by opening their own lock ? And then get them to chop the original lock ?

Edit - the thought hadn't occurred to me, it would be a clever scam indeed. I suspect OP had his family with him, normally that should be enough to sway opinion in their favour.

It was much more complicated than unlocking my lock

I had to go to guest services and give all my details (including what make and model the bikes are) and then she called security.

When they arrived, they wanted to confirm the same details, I suppose all this would be different in the 'real' world
