Speed6 oil choices

Hi,

I'm new to TVR ownership and I know that TVR power recommends a semi synthetic oil for the SP6 engine, but the handbook and Opie oil man says fully synthetic. Logically a fully synthetic is a better oil than the semi at matching grades so why is the semi recommended?

I always ran Mobil 1 Motorsport after running in but I do recall that Power recommended a semi.

a long time ago dom at tvr power advised us to use castrol gtx magnatec 10/40 and to date absolutely no issues with either our cars or our customers

Dom rebuilds engines, he offers a 5 year warranty that is backed up with money in his bank accont. I never asked he why, I just went with his recommendadtion. It is actually a warranty condition on the Power warranty

Yes I'm not doubting Dom knows his stuff, I was just wondering what the rationale was, if he'd shared it with anyone. Mines currently running on 10/40 semi as it happens on his recommendation so it's merely curiosity. Just a bit counter intuitive really.

He did me, but for the life of me i didn't have a clue what he was on about, some think about bore wear?????
Anyway i am up there next week having a 12000 mile service so i will ask again...........
