thought id share some pics of my new toy i picked up tonight.

overall it dosent owe me that much, and apart from a few minor things here and there, its bloody good motoring!

its had a big break upgrade, although im not sure what off? anyone know what are common upgrades for these? its had to have 7mm spacers on the front to cover the breaks, and the wheels only just clear!

gonna tidy it up and enjoy it i think!

At a guess, probably a Mk3 VR6 or Mk2 G60. My money would be on the latter for simplicity.

yes, fairly local, came from new quay, same chap had a mk2 with a vr6! i took it as a px on the mk4 i had.

thanks for the info on the brakes, it pulls slightly to the right under heavy braking, so i may need to order new discs/pads.

going to get it on the lift this week, and see what underneaths like, found out ealier its been polybushed all round, and is fitted with spax suspension! no wonder it handles like it does

As an 8v i think itll have 239mm brakes on it, in which case you will need g60 hubs, calipers carriers and discs. If its already on 256's you can just get G60 carriers and new discs and they will fit. Trouble with going to MK3 Vr6 288's is they are five stud, so only worth it if you take the wishbones and all the gubbins to wide track it and new wheels to boot. I would keep an eye out for a used set of wilwoods, they are fairly cheap and as a bonus are much lighter, reducing your unsprung weight on each corner!

As stated, is it 4 or 5 stud? My mk2 VR6 has the full conversion including subframes, running 5 stud hubs and big brakes. Downside is I can't fit standard BBS wheels to it.

thanks for the comments, the info is much appreciated.
its still on the original bbs RA's which i presume are 4x100.

when i get chance to get it up in the air, the wheels will come off and ill measure the discs and see if i can get any part numbers from the calipers.

it needs a battery, and a new interior, the headlining is sagging at the back, and three of the four doorcards are leather! they are from the g60?

the basics are there though, its a hoot to drive too! i love being back in old vw metal biggrin

heres a couple pics of my old one for nostalgia purposes :P
