To be correct you have to carry one (best 2) from 1st July but fines for not carrying one commence from 1st November.
If you are stopped and cant speak good French good luck trying to explain that to the old bill.

think I'll just pay their 11 euro fine, probably cheaper than buying two breathalyser kits, what will they think of next??

pack of 2 are £6 from Halfords, or £3 off eBay, but if you want to try your luck explaining why you don't agree with the French law to the freindly French copper then good luck smile

This law is an utter waste of time. If someone is of the frame of mind to drink drive, they will do regardless of whether they have a 'device' in their glovebox. How accurate these devices are is interesting, bearing in kind their cost. A proper device requiring calibration is hundreds of pounds.

I will not be buying one if the fine is 11 euro. The chances of being asked are slim and lets face it with the fine being so low, it is a chance worth taking.

If it were more then perhaps.

Unless you get stopped several times.

I also believe that the law is "at least two" in the car at all times. I'll be buying a couple of twin packs at the tunnel terminal. Apparently they are a lot cheaper. Might but some tape on the headlights this year too as we are spending two weeks on the continent.

Idiot BBC said:
Some 4,000 people are killed on French roads every year, with drink-driving being the main factor in accidents ahead even of speeding.

No you are wrong. Its 5.2% of accidents in this country that occur in excess of the speed limit smile

Most places here are out of stock but no panic untill November and then not a big problem. The Gendarmes have more things to do than stop and check cars for all the bits required. V5 and insurance that's all they are bothered about, and of course excessive speed but that's another subject.

Agree. Only ever been asked for car docs and to be honest being stopped for that does not bother me. If someone took my car I would be hoping they pulled it for a doc check.
