Background first:

Had a bit of an altercation with a taxi driver today whilst picking the missus up. I rocked up to the collection point and parked up and someone parked up behind me. It's a in & out system so the bloke stopped quite close to me but as I was at the front, it didn't matter. Taxi driver pulls up in front of me and reverses to within half a metre of my front, (on double yellows), and then waits. As the missus train pulls in I go up to him and ask him if he can move and he says no, you're not leaving yet (provide your own Polish accent). So I get on the phone to his cab company and ask them to tell him to move it which I assume they did because as I'm loading the missus suitcase, he thinks it's an opportune moment to step out and go and chat to his taxi wker mate who's parked in front of him. I start the car and shout across to him to move which he ignores so I get out and ask him, (starting to get really fked off now), to move it or I will. He just looks at me and says something in some Eastern European language which is obviously some insult so I go over to his cab and open the door which perks him in to action. He comes over and I tell him to move it or I'm on the phone to his company so he makes a big show of being really slow so I get on the phone and start having a word to which he eventually moves it, calls after me in foreign and sticks his fingers up. To be honest, I'd have quite happily given him a good kicking-in if there was no one or CCTV around.

Anyway, I get onto the cab firm and start complaining and they start defending him and making excuses for him and asking why I couldn't just wait or do a 25 point turn to get out at which point I started getting arsy with them. They were telling me all these things that he was doing such as waiting for his pick up and there's no problem with his parking, (on double yellows), and they believed him! One gripe i mentioned was that there was an empty cab rank 20 metres away so why wasn't he on that? According to despatch, he's not allowed on the taxi rank??? WTF?

fk me I'm annoyed! Not only has some cab wker pissed me off but there appears to not be any recourse to address it as the company are just as bad.

If you live in Brighton then there is only one real cab firm and I know they're not all like that, I know a few very good honest ones, but in my experience the bloody majority are a bunch of speeding, sign-ignoring, non-English speaking, don't know where the fk they are going, blind, rip-off, stitch up fking wkers.

This isn't going to go well. Why did you not use the half a metre in front of you to reverse out? All the nonsense about calling the cab company just sounds weird.

You called the company? Why not ask for his mums number while you're at it? Sounds like a total failure of any interpersonal skills.

Taxi drivers seem to have a law all to themselves, and they get away with it.

In this instance (or any) I don't think the taxi firm will give a hoot.

Fireblade, the only thing you will achieve from this thread(hopefully) is to learn that PH will rip you a new one for daring to complain or attempting to paint yourself as in the right.

Gone are the days when you could rely on PH to a bit of moral support. Too many contrarians on here these days.

Chalk it up to experience and go have a nice sunday afternoon beer smile

Sounds like he was private hire and not taxi, hence he couldn't use the taxi rank.

If you want to complain speak to the local licensing officer, they can take him off the road,
the cab company wouldn't do that as they would be losing money.

Rather than complain to the monkey use the organ grinder.

Troll/User ratio does seem to be much higher than it used to be.

1) 1/2 metre is not much, and why the fk should I?
2) Yes, I am.
3) I did but she was round your dad's.

Letting of a bit of steam really so if the troll population have got any waste-of-your-own-time wker comments then keep them to yourself, I won't care.

I don't know what you consider to be a troll, but responding to reasonable criticism with insults is what I'd consider to be trolling. Not much point complaining about trolling when you're acting like one.

I don't suppose you could enlighten me as to what the difference is? I thought a taxi was a taxi and the number that was on the door is the normal phone number?? confused

(Still doesn't allow him to park on double yellows though)

Private hire is where the fare has to be pre booked, so you are hiring the car and driver for that trip.

Taxi is the traditional stop me and get in thing. these can tout for fares themselves and have their own ranks to stop and do this in.

Private hire fares are generally cheaper than taxi, both are governed by the local licensing officer who has the power to take them off the road for a variety of things.

Hope that helps a bit.

I've always thought trolling was delibarate baiting by posting whatever is most likely to be construed as insulting or argumentative whilst actually being apathetic on the subject matter.

Point taken though.

Wait at the taxi rank until he pulls up, get in his taxi, get him to go somewere quite then sort the prick out.

If you see him again, call him chippa, they don't like that.

Thanks! You learn something new everyday. Shame the taxi despatch person didn't explain that bit, might have felt less pissed off about it.

Iirc private hire must be pre booked and can't pick up randoms in the street, hence not being able to use the rank.

Driver sounds a bit of a chump but perhaps you could of tried cool and calm rather than both barrels? Who knows smile

The missus said that. I'd already asked him nicely twice before smile

He must have been in a bad mood or something

I'd chalk it up to both of you having bad days and patience failures,it may be that ringing the firm he works for was a bit of a gitish move and possibly enough to cause someone to switch from reasonable to unreasonable.
