A quick update required :)
Discussion
Been a couple of years since i bought my Panny plasma from Derisrictor, and I have now moved country to Switzerland and need to purchase a new TV and would like a quick update on what to look for.
When i got mine it seemed plasma was king and samsung produced shiny looking but poor quality sets.
However that was before LEd/ 3d type stuff came along, and with the fast moving technology sector i figuared i should aska quick update to what i should be looking for.
My requirement is to spend around GBP1k (CHF 1.5K) on the biggest screen i can that has nice quality to it.
Im not looking for individual recommendations, as Im not sure you can get the same model numbers over here, however a general point in the right direction would be good
For instance, a projector system, are they good for 3 d, or not quite right yet?
Samsung, look even shinier now, is the quality improved?
Or should i just look for a decent priced panny plasma again?
Any help appreciated as having a friendly chat with the local TV salesman is pretty hard as i dont speak any German!!
Help appreciated

When I looked for a new TV recently the advice I was given was that which type of TV depended on what you wanted it for. I went for a Plasma telly because that is better for fast moving images like sports and the primary reason for me getting a new telly was to watch the F1 on Sky HD.
Plasma is older tech compared to LED/LCD but still by no means dead.
Whats the primary type of thing you would be watching?

Similar thing's just happened to me actually.
Had a 7 year old Samsung plasma (non-HD, cost me £1500 in 2005) that gave up on me last month. I'd been looking with jealousy at Sky's HD F1 channel this year, but couldn't really justify buying another TV just for that - until my plasma went pop - wahey, justification at last!
Had a look around the net, read some forums and reviews, and phoned 'Richer Sounds' - the guy I spoke to knew his stuff. Told him I would like a good HD TV with smart technology, i.e the capability to connect to the net to watch BBC iplayer, downloads etc.
Second buying criteria was a price under £500.
Third criteria was a lower power consumption would be nice.
So, they pointed me in the direction of an LG HD / Smart TV using LED technology. Came in at £489. Got about half the power consumption of my old plasma, the HD is, to me, stunning, and it connects to my internet router and does the online stuff I wanted.
Apparrently, these days, most of the TV set panels are made by a very small group of manufacturers in the far east anyhow, so a lot of the different brands share the same guts inside. He also said that because of that, it's difficult to buy a 'bum' set now - and most of them are much of a muchness with regard to reliability and longevity now.
HTH.

Thanks Guys
Basically i would use it for movies and xbox
as im abroad BBC iplayer is no good to me sadly, unless you are able to load VPN on these sets?
Does anyone know a website that lists all the features of Tv, and what they mean!
I can then look at what i want and find a TV that fits the best?
