With a new airport on our doorstep (10 minutes) away we thought we might as well use it so i've booked a little 3 day trip to Barcelona for my birthday next week.

The last time i went there was with school when i was about 15 or so, so can't remember much of it. Just after some must see/better avoid tips from people here who've been recently.

We're staying in a hotel in "Cornella de Llobregat" about 20-25 minutes away from the city centre.

La Sagrada Familia is a must
Definitely. They've actually got a chance of finishing it in the next twenty years or so - they've really kicked on with it in the last few years.

I've just got back from 3 days in Barca.

Defo the Sagrada Familia, Picasso museum and up to the Olympic village & Montjuic. The tourist bus is well worth the money, I only wished I'd paid for 2 days tickets.
I thought Las Ramblas was totally overrated.

Be very careful with your valuables, check the date stamp on your bus ticket!

Tis a beautiful city, have a great time smile

Park Guell, Barcelona Cathedral and Casa Batllo are well worth a visit too. I thought that Barcelona Zoo was pretty good as well.

Sagrada Familia is a must, as is a wander around the Gothic Quarter. I would highly recommend the Segway tour run by Edgar, mentioned in a few previous threads on Barcelona. The Ramblas is not worth wasting too much time on, but it does only take 15/20 mins to walk from one end to the other.
Be careful with valuables, just need to keep your wits about you, nothing more.
Enjoy.

Some good suggestions on the thread so far.
I'd also recommend a trip to Barcelonetta (sp?) beach area for some authentic local tapas and beer!
There is also great food in the market just off Las Ramblas.

Went to Barca about 6 years ago after a gap of 12 years…..how it had changed. Las Ramblas had gone from being a friendly ‘avenue’ where you could watch the world go by to a place full of hostile café owners. Don’t waste your time here

Do a tour of Gaudi’s buildings including Sagrada Famille and Park Guel, the Olympic city, pop into the market off Las Ramblas – this is how markets should be

As someone has said, be very careful with your valuables – theft is rife

Wife and I went to Barcelona March 2011 for 5 days, had a great time although freezing cold!

In addition to what earlier PHers have recommended, we'd suggest you take the organised Old Town walking tour. This is a morning walk with guide, excellent. We booked from the UK via the tourism office website.

Also, do get the 2 day tourist bus pass...well worth it as Barcelona is a very large city.

Had a great time, lovely sunny weather, 27 degrees, marvelous!

Though getting of the plane back in the UK in shorts and flippers when it's pouring down with rain and 15 degrees outside was less fun...

We had loads of sangria, wine and Chorizo, done the Sangrada familia, took the cable car up to the mountain of the jew and walked round there for a bit (great views), went to the magic fountain in the evening, been to la ramblas, exlorered the town we were staying in, and done that segway tour, which i really enjoyed. I now want a segway here in the UK but the misses states they are only for geeks and i'm not allowed one to drive to the shops frown

Thanks for the advice guys.

Didn't see this until now. The Dali Musuem is a must if you ever go back.

Oh, and even if you could get your hands on a Segway, they're illegal in the UK.
