..the car had run lkike a dream. Put the car in the garage, all seemed well. Went out a little later to the diesel burner and strong smell of petrol coming from the garage. Opened up and looked around but nothing obvious so left it until today.

Started the car to see what was happening and looked underneath. Petrol spewing everywhere, not sure if it is from the fuel pump of the pipe off it but defo on the 'outlet' side. Switched of in about 2 seconds but still about a gallon running down the garage floor!!!!!!!!!!

Going to try a new piece of pipe first but just in case is there a particular fuel pump I need??

Thanmks in advance for any help.

Cheers, David

Good nothing bad happened yikes, especially when you started it up again!
Had something like this, but the wedge hadn't been used for a couple of weeks and during the regular check after such a period with a running engine, fuel was pouring at the back. Switched off as quick as possible. Replaced all fuel hoses on the car (to and from engine, fuel tanks) as they were still original.
Seems your fuel pump is very healthy, just the petrol hose will do I think. But worth a check for the complete fuel system hoses.

I had a fitting break that connects the expansion tank to the rad while i was waiting for the RR..Then when i went to stratford and filled up for the journey home i came out to the car and noticed petrol dripping from the filler neck connection to the tank...banghead..Not again..please!!..It did stop leaking but the smell of fresh fuel was inside the cabin all the way home even with the windows open, The roof was on due to rain...Honest..At one point it was making me fall asleep..Not good at 100mph...I mean 100kph..whistle

That what comes of showing off to people who have a car with broken headlights!!!!!!!!!

Hope you get it fixed soon and pleased to hear that it did not cause any other problems

Looking forward to following that red wedge soon, although I can see it could get very silly, like it almost did on the journey to and from BBWF!

Can you post the pictures that were taken on the way down to BBWF

Sorry to hear about the fuel leak. it's never a good idea to store petrol on the garage floor and I definitely prefer mine on the inside of the tanks.
Let me know if you a need any help to get the old girl sorted. - the 400SE I mean. I had problems with the output coupling fitted to the fuel pump. It was a Friday afternoon TVR special and was too small for the high pressure outlet pipe so it always leaked. Some of the pipes I replaced when I had the body off were starting to get brittle so you might be suffering the same problem. The next stop after the fuel pump is the high pressure filter and I've seen some of these corrode pretty badly in the past so that's worth a look.

I'm glad you didn't start lubricating the M6 with petrol while we were all following you back from the BBWF. A nice mix of water and petrol leads to some interesting driving conditions.

We got home from the festival without any problems. Most of our journey back was with another Wedge from the festival we met along the way, overtaking each other along the M40 back to London. BBWF 2012 was another great event thanks to the organisers and their dedicated hard work.

lucas 4fp or replica fuel pump, check the electrical connectors i had o ring ones (you can choose between spades and o-ring type for most replicas) and get yourself a new fuel filter too while you're at it.

I used a glue clamp on the big hose from the fuel tanks to the swirl pot. Not the clip on kind, the ones with two plates you can screw shut.

Well you get the idea!

Cheers Simon, I'll let you know. Trying the pipe first, it may well become obvious when I take that off!! Left the old girl in the garage on axle stands until I get back in the country later this week.

Thanks to everyone for your replies, I just hope it isn't a case of a full 're-piping'!!

Cheers, David

When I did a "re-piping" last I used lorry brake pipe - cunifer stuff - as I don't trust long runs of rubber and besides it was much easier to get than unleaded/injection rated.

Apologies, I have one of these new fangled iPhones which really hates allowing download of photos to a windows PC furious

I'm also working away right now but soon as I get home, will download and post up here (somewhere). Believe it or not...need to have my iPhone on same WLAN as my PC and then use a downloaded APP to do this transfer for me. And who ever said Apple was user-friendly !

Really enjoyed the BBWF, is like TVR version of STW smokin

(hope you resolve the fuel leak soon, will be just a split pipe I guess, she really did run like a dream on way there & back so can't be anything to worry about driving)

Could you please send them to me as well once you've finished wrestling with your iPhone. laugh

I've had the wedge over the pit and it looks to have faired OK after its first voyage. The only thing I can find wrong with it, apart from the bust gear box of course, is a disintegrated bush on the base of one of the front shockers. Hopefully I can source one from RT Racing.

On the gearbox front, I spoke to Competition Transmission Services, who rebuilt the box, and they have asked me to try some different oil in it before condemning it. I’ve swapped it already and hope that sorts it as I can’t cope with the prospect of heaving the whole lot out again. mad

Well my engineering talents know no bounds biggrin

It was just the pipe that connects the fuel pump to the rail that goes down the sill. Interestingly it was only replaced at the last MOT as they spotted a seep and replaced it for me. I have to say the fuel pipe I have just put on is about twice the wall thickness so I guess that the pressure over time has blown a hole in the one that they put on.

So life is all good again. smile

Sounds like the pipe they used wasn't injection-pressure rated and maybe not unleaded-rated.

But a happy ending eh...

Good news a nice simple fix - I like those. I'd echo what Adam said about the pipe though, it definitely doesn't sound like your friendly MOT man used high pressure EFI hose.
