My new Alfa GTV....
Discussion
Hi,
In (potentially) a moment of madness I finally scratched my Alfa itch today and placed a deposit on a GTV. Unfortunately its not the 3.0 V6 I was hoping for but this isn't such a bad thing (insurance mainly and cost of repair when it goes wrong
).
One of the main reasons I wanted the V6 was because of the optional aero kit they seem to be fitted with...then I spotted this little beauty on the bay of E last night. Cue a 3 hour drive up the A1 to view and decide I wanted it and it was mine. Picking it up next sunday and I'm already like a kid at christmas, absolute luxury compared to the Nissan Micra 1.0 s
tbox I'm currently in.
The aim is to keep it largely 'as is' but tidy up any less than perfect bits and detail the paint, the other things I haven't made my mind up on are the crests on the wings...they have an alfa logo and GTV in them (not a prancing horse before anyone asks
) but they may be removed yet...
So, its red, its italian and its sporty(ish) whats the worst that can happen lol

Yeah, id like to fit 17"s to the spider aswell but dont want to spend that kind of money. I have two 156's aswell (bit of an Alfa obsession!) one of which the engine is blown in and im just keeping for parts. That has the 16" Teledials so ill swap them over. Thanks for the offer though.

yeh no worries. This is my first foray into Alfa ownership so fingers crossed.
From the text i take it that its a 2.0 twinspark? if so:- keep a very close eye on oil-level, if it drops below the LOW mark, chances are your crank bearings will be damaged and need replacing, if you are unlucky you could write off the engine
- keep a very close eye on the cam belt, replace it often (i think 3 years 35k miles?), they tend to snap when going over the mileage, and a snap means a written off engine.
Other then that, briliant car! I want a GTV somewhere down the line, allthough i have my heart set on a v6 turbo, for some financially unsound reasons :P
Briliant wheels by the way, i almost bought a metallic deep red one a few years back with those wheels, i was super pissed when i found out it was sold already

Being completely honest, I've never been really bother about a car, but this one has me both worried and excited in both degrees. Worried its gonna be a nightmare, but excited because its italian, and pretty (to me anyway) and I know i'll pamper her. Already looking at little improvements here and there to tidy up the less than perfect bits.
I must admit, the 3.0 V6's sound glorious tho...

you'll need longer bolts+spacers for 156 wheels. I had them on my TS. check my profile
Not long bought a seriously cheap 156 as a stop gap (incidentally my first alfa) and really really like it, but am already looking at replacements for it. Really don't need a four door saloon. These are catching my eye, the 2.0 as yours. Would be interested in you posting running costs? Avg MPG (the 1.6 in mine is doing about 36 mpg), any consumables etc, many thanks!
Nice. I'll reiterate what was said about the oil. Mine used to get through about a pint every 1000 miles - thirsty!
I had 156 wheels of that type on mine. Had to get some hubcentric spacers machined and longer bolts. Damned if I remember the sizes though. 4x98 keeps coming into my head but thats probably off my older alfas and lancias...
