Hi there,
I dont know if im in the right place i just need to get this out!
My sister smokes cannabis, quite a lot i'd say, usually after she is calm, loving and quite happy, afterwards she is the most evil bh you would ever lay you eyes on, my dad is in hospital this moment after falling ill with neumonia(sp) and my other sister has just gone into labour.
This should be a happy occasion for my sister but instead it all has to be about sister number one, my mum sat down and cried because she doesnt understand, at the ripe old age of 18 i can say ive tried cannabis, i had a smoke with a friend, but thats as far as it went, my mum doesnt feel she should be addicted to it, and i also dont feel you should have a comedown from cannabis?
Any advice on how to help her or deal with these volatile situations would be amazing!
Oh and it might be hard to get her off it, her boyfriend is a long time smoker!
Regards
Steve

Cannabis is psychoactive, and there haven't been enough long term tests to figure out exactly what it can do to the developing brains of teenagers. While cannabis itself isn't addictive, the feeling can be.

How much of a scumbag is the boyfriend? Could he be paid off with a crate of Stella and 200 fags? If so I would do that.

Two anti-cannabis posts in one day that talk of aggression and evilness? There goes my idea for crowd control. Hmmm... smacks of government dirt crusade to me. wink

The high can be addictive but equally so can the psychological dependance due to the altered mindset. From what I have seen, people who smoke it long term are either the self-destructive rebellious type who do any drugs or those struggling to find their true identity, place in the world or making sense of a senseless world they despise.

Or something like that. wink

Lock her in a room and say that she can only come out when she has completed a complex and lengthy project, that's either mentally or physically taxing, that ideally would take someone at least 2 weeks to complete.

Everyone has the impression weed is harmless. Today's green of choice is nasty, hybrid, over the top, blow your brains out skunk that turns people into cavemen. Skunk should be classed under the same category as cocaine. I'm not surprised to hear there are comedown effects from the stuff.

In the great words of George Carlin " it's all buIIst and it's bad for you".

I'd literally just pile on the guilt. Weed makes you paranoid and over think every little comment. Get inside her head at every opportunity and eventually she will realise. A big gesture won't do, she will crave attention and if she doesn't get it podivately dhe will change

Ive spoken to my girlfriend in depth about my sister, she seems to think rehab would be good but i would love to find someone who can control her, shes built like a tank! The boyfriend is a complete tosspot! Been inside most of his life for drug abuse. Narrowly escaped being caught with some illegL porn(not kids!) tried to get rid of him, even if we could there would be someone else keeping her supplied!

I attribute most of the issues with crime violence lethergy psycosis education etc etc to Skunk.

I used to smoke it heavily but stopped in my early 20s as I could tell it was affecting my mind. Once I stopped life took off and consider it to be the best decision I have ever made, if I could go back I wouldn't have had one drag on a joint.

A huge percentage of people use it, I would say that a figure of 60% of under 25s are heavy users, its all the young think about, they wake up and want it, go to sleep on it and base their entire day in the pursuit of it. If it didn't exist I think crime would be hugely reduced, the Government seem to focus on class A drugs but I belive Skunk has a more widespread affect on society. It still is an issue in my life as people close to me are still using, its the percieved innocence and "it don't harm you" attitude that let's it have such a strong grip on people.

OP I hope you can get her off of it, but as with all addictions, they will only stop when the want to.

The cannabis combined with moody teenager stuff can cause big problems.

For me it was a phase I went through, realised one day i didn't like being stoned and stopped.

So its either a phase which she will grow out of or a problem that needs action.

k nothing to add really other than...

I used to smoke weed, lots of weed, like a hell of a lot, and me, nor any of my mates have ever had a come down off even the strongest of amsterdam weed.

I think she might have a neuralogical problem if that sort of thing is happerning, and the weed is making it rear its ugly head.

make sure she doesnt smoke weed for a week or 2, then if she is still the evil bh make her see a shrink.

I'd say that is a slight overestimation hehe

Not in towns and inner cities it isn't.

Apologies. I must be way out of touch. I've lived in some real rough areas/inner cities and rural places too and I probably know about 5 people who smoke it occasionally. No 'heavy users'. The whole drugs problem is massively underestimated anyway.

It really is. I don't know what kind of place you lived in, but I'd say -maybe- 40% of people I've met will admit having smoked it once or twice, and 10%ish smoke/smoked it regularly.

Edit: sorry, didn't mean to come across as insulting with the phrasing - have changed it. Worth considering that as a user, your friend group was likely rather more biased towards drug use in general though.
