Morning Guys,

I got in my C4S 996 yesterday and after about 20 miles noticed that the PSE wasnt as loud as normal. the exhauast isnt switchable and usually has a loud howl. can the exhaust chance pitch due to drive conditions i.e temp or time? I just wanna get an idea before i go to the dealer.

It will be louder and more raspy when cold.

Is it not a Porsche system then, as they are always switchable? If it is, sounds like it may need some attention.

Isn't it just the speed-related cut out, the swiches the exhaust to silent between certain speeds?

If so, it's easy to remove this feature.

I seem to recall that between certain speeds e.g. 30-40mph, the valves close fully and the exhaust is quieter - this was to pass German noise regulations which are conducted at a set speed.

But as above, no switch on the dash - no PSE.

Some folk retrofit the PSE without the electronics. Factory fit switches. Stays on loud unless you switch to quiet and gives a fair bark on first start.

The diode snip will sort out the quiet patch at 30-50 ish.

..with PSE, the default setting is noisy on start up, and light off.. push button for quieter (light on), I think it's the same at higher rpm's tho'..
