F10 M5 prices - £45k by late 2012?
Discussion
I didn't think I would like the new M5 but I sat in a Singapore Grey M5 at Goodwood FoS at the weekend and loved it - a perfect family car!
I see that F10 M5 prices for ex-demo stock, etc are hitting £60k mark already - some £20-25k off list price of a well spec'd car.
What do we think they will be by October? My co-Director has just ordered a spec'd up Evoque for £45k for October / November delivery and this means I have an equal budget to play with. No company car tax considerations as we will be running as private cars.
So, do we think we will see any £45k F10 M5's by October/November this year?

Hi,
No one of course has a crystal ball so like always, it'll be difficult to tell.
However,
We are not in usual times, the economic issues just for the UK aren't looking to be easily resolved nor in any relatively quick timeframe. Other countries are wobbling very badly and we have the effects of whatever happens there to feel in the future. If those wobbling countries really do stumble badly, we will endure more difficulties. Job security is very low, lending is much reduced and more basic costs of living are on an upward trend. Petrol, whilst currently experiencing a little softening, overall is on the getting more expensive trend.
Car selling prices are more indicative rather than sticker/advertised prices. Due to the effects of the above, I think perhaps by March 2013 we'll see sub £10K E60 M5's and perhaps £45-50K F10 M5's. There's less people overall interested and capable of running big engined cars and there's only so many enthusiasts out there willing to run them as they've been designed to.
Next 2-5 years for used car selling prices will be interesting, as I think there'll be a spike in 'just picked up M5/M3/RS4/AMG etc etc for a very cheap price indeed type posts as those with the cars may find themselves having to fire sell.
Cheers, Dennis!

Just been for a test drive in one and it was awesome. Felt that bit quicker than the E6x but I'm not convinced it was a massive improvement. Comfort and interior were better for sure but that's really to be expected as tech and design moves on.
Still to be convinced really but it was still a great half and hour in the Rain.

There have been loads of demos for sale over the past few months, with prices reflecting the usual level of initial depreciation for an m5. I don't think that there are many people ordering a new m5 in this climate, so I'm not sure that there will be a great supply of 2nd hand cars by the end of the year.
Dealers are still bullish about not discounting new F10 M5s. I think they're taking their initial depreciation hit as people are moving them on after 9-18mths at £55k-£65k. Those cars will go into private hands of enthusiasts and stay there. Also, compare with the E63. There's a few nearly-new/ex-demo cars kicking about, but an absolute dearth of 18-30mth old cars.
I think that the market is acting as if it thinks £80k for an optioned M5 is too much, and that £65k is a much more reasonable figure. BMW are building to order, so they don't really care.
That's my guess anyway. I've been watching the market of F10 M5s for a while now as it's one of two cars on my shortlist.
