... what will the track day scene look like?

I mean, today, you can go to a track day and see 10-15 year old hot hatches, barges etc being ragged around a circuit stripped out and fully (or partially) track prepped.

But, forward on 10 years, do you think we will be seeing the same age gap being ripped around Castle Combe by a father and son weekend hobby racer?

For example, can you really imagine a BMW 330i on a plate between '56 and, say, '12 being stripped out, caged and throttled around a track by your average petrolhead? Or will Cars holding their value, along with the complicated electronics etc get in the way.

Just curious really as recently watched the Saloon Championship at Castle Combe and loved watching the 10+ year old cars, anything from a Citroen Saxo, to a MG ZR, to a Rover Coupe pushing 500+bhp (some were newer, Leon Cupra R circa 2003 was there and a 1 Series) being raced, but it saddens me to think that the cars my little lad will grow up around may not have the privelidge to have the chance to be plowed into the barriers at Quarry. biggrin

Only time will tell, I suppose... scratchchin

I can see it getting increasingly hard to strip out modern cars without all manner of error lights coming on which will cause them to fail their MoT tests. Assuming that's not an issue, I doubt it'll change much; they will be full of 1-series, Fiestas, etc.

I wonder if 'Elf and Safety might get in the way of track days in the future?

A recipe for very boring races IMHO. All pretty similarly powered, sized and boring.

Will the days equivelent of dropping an M3 evo engine into an E36 328i be gone? I should imagine it would be a little more difficult to the same with todays engines.

No doubt you'll see plenty of Renault Clios and Meganes. My old BMW 130i was a great car on circuit and would make a great track slag in a few years time.

Are many injured? Other than bike TDs I've never ever seen anyone badly - or even slightly - hurt other than their wallet.

...and the roar of V8s burning synthetic methanol made from air, water and the same electricity the electric cars are using.

Funny enough, I've been planning to do this at some point, as the old man has got the track day bug and I thought it'd be easy on the limit, light when stripped out, cheap enough and fast enough to keep him entertained without going mental in terms of speed and costs.

Hats off biggrin

However, I think we may have a different interpretation of "mental" especially in terms of costs hehe

Fair enough, I suppose it depends on perspective hehe

Plenty of leggy examples knocking about at the 6-8k mark though, 4k spend on things like roll cage, coilovers and a set of track day wheels and tyres whilst flogging off the interior could see a pretty handy track tool for as little as 10 grand! Didn't seem too bad when you consider an RS Clio is in the same ballpark!!
