Cheers guys i'll have a look into them. Santa Pod looks a proper drifting set up - need to enquire re what to expect with tyres etc, ie will i have enough tread left to get home
Has anyone on here done one?
Santa Pod DWYB is great for beginners. I always recommend it. What would you like to know? There is always a tyre van available, they also have some 2nd rubber for sale in popular sizes

Tyre changing at £5 per rim is cheap. It would be a reasonable idea to buy some part worn tyres from the back door of a local tyre depot, or from ebay, and then have them fitted on arrival and removed on departure - therefore ZERO wear on your road tyres.
Also the Oulton drift track is long and windey and has barriers in places, and trees and kerbs to drop off. The santa pod one looks like a more beginner friendly type of a place tbh.

Thanks rottie. I like the sound of the Santa Pod event. I might come down and spectate first, if allowed

And? All part of it. Just like any motorsport. Plus this is not a novice playpen...I've driven the Oulton Park drift circuit too. Whilst it is low grip and very easy to 'get it going', it's certainly not for beginners unless you've got a good level of self-control. There's quite a lot to hit...
The Norfolk arena track layout looks very suitable for drifting but what's with the close proximity between cars? Surely that's not the norm is it? It would certainly put me off the whole sport.
(But then it is a banger racing stadium...)

For a first-timer you want somewhere with a lot of space. The Oulton drift circuit is not good IMHO, as it's very tight and quite slow. Drifts are actually easier at higher speeds, as the car is less twitchy, provided the car has the power to hold drifts in higher gears.
Best drifting day I ever did was a full day at the ATP Papenberg facilty in Northern Germany with a Dutch drifting club. They have video of the track here (not the day we went):

Downside is its 350 miles from Calais. Upside is part of the route is the A31, where you can max any car (Brabus use it as their test-track).
