Forgotten just how good they are :)

....996s that is. My old girl is currently being a bit temperamental so my mate and his wife have kindly lent me their 996.1 C2 for a couple of days to get to/from work. Having had a 996 C4S a few years ago, I'd somehow managed to forget just how good a steer 996s are and what phenomenal value they are now. I've only done a few non motorway miles in the car today but it really does feel tight as a nub at 87k miles on a W plate, really amazing. If it were mine, I'd still get a sports exhaust fitted like i had as I prefer a little more childishness in my cars, but even the short time today has reasserted the fact in my mind that if I ever get another 911, I wouldnt even consider a 4 wheel drive one. Steering feels noticeably nicer on my mate's car and I was always convinced that my 4S (well, 4Ss in general) were always over-tyred for the engine. For 400lbft of turbo lump, the 4wd and 295 rears make sense, but not for any of the NA cars IMHO.
As a final note, the one my mate has is fitted with the GT3 wing thing at the back and corresponding front bumper. Not everyone's cup if tea, but somehow they seem complement the much maligned 996.1 headlights perfectly amd seem to get better every year it gets older! While the C4S is still the prettiest for me, my mates car is perilously close behind....and what with the better steering, cheaper tyres/brakes etc, if he's not careful I might try and get him to sell it to me
