Somebody I work with has a P reg mondeo and the front bumper is hanging off on the left side. She's asked me if anything could be done about it as it's currently held up with gafa tape and isnt really doing a good job. How are these held on? Is it something like a new clip or would it be a new bumper?

Isn't it the prerogative of that vintage Mondeo to have tape on the bumper?

the bumpers on these are made of cheese, get one in better condition from a scrapyard for 10p.

Usually it's a combination of single use plastic clips, and bolts/ screws scattered along the inner wheel arch under the wheel arch liner, along the grill/ bonnet shut area, and under the bumper.

Use genuine Ford gaffer tape.

Does ford have anywhere you can look at the individual parts? Like the peugeot/citroen servicebox?

Repairing a Mondeo bumper is very much like making love to a beautiful women. Treat it with care, give it your undivided attention and slowly work towards your goal of filling the holes, avoiding excessive residue in the surrounding areas. Then bind it up in gaffer tape, take some pictures and publish them on the internet.

In truth a Mondeo bumper without gaffer tape is like a vacuum. Nature abhors it, and will try to rectify the situation however it can.

I have a Mondeo of the same period. The front bumper is held on in 6 places. 4 bolts at the front (2 pairs, either side of the number plate) and 1 bolt at the side by the wing. For the bit by the wing, the bumper actually has a groove in it and this slides over a bolt protruding from the wing. If it's come away because something's snapped, you'll struggle to fix it back on, lest you pin it with a new bolt. Mr MOT man will love that when he sees it sticking out and rusting away.

I couldn't find a schematic online so I drew it for you:

Cheers, sounds like its snapped under the wing, ill have to actually get under it at some point and see whats going on and if I can get a new bolt or something in there to pin it up.

I don't think I've ever seen a mondeo from that era without gaffer tape on a bumper somewhere

This all seems to be using tape to hold bits of the bumper together. The bumper is actually in one piece it's just not fixed to the rest of the car on one side.

^This. Ford don't actually make spare bumpers for the Mondeo anymore. Once gaffer tape was invented in 1996, the arse fell out of the market for them. True story.
