So the Cerbie has gone and I have money to burn!

So..... The shortlist is:

2003/2004 Mercedes CL600 Twin turbo (500hp)

Or

2004/2005 facelift XKR 4.2 (older shape)

Drove a 600 this weekend - god what a piece of kit. The torque is unbelievable and road presence is huge. Never tried a 4.2 XK.....

Where would you 12-14k be going?

Merc.

The Jag will just feel like a softer (slower!!) version of the Cerb but the Merc will offer a new dimension of waftability.

As posted in another thread what about a CL67, full of V12 Brabus goodness and according to the ad returns up to 25mpg - brutal AND economical!

I dont have a clue about used prices in the UK, but how about a german V8?

Really, anything with 8 cilinders and an AMG badge will do. Sadly nothing with a 6 and a 3 to be found within budget, but autotrader yields plenty of merc with a pair of 5s on the back, and off course any assortment of Cs, Es, Ss, Ls and the occiasional K.

Oh, curve ball - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

hehe

I would though be trying to find an AMG SL55 instead of the SL600. Tricky with the budget though.

haha - OK so i think its going to be a nice 600 biturbo - will be chopping my E39 M5 into the deal and will then have an all Merc fleet:
R129 SL 500 (already on the drive and my "classic")
W215 CL 600

Just go to find a nice one without the dreaded air suspension problems - apparently can be 000s to fix - £1000 + per corner!!

Go for Jag

air suspension repair is cheap - it's the coils that go. Come as a single unit per bank at about £1,000 each side.

Two of everything on the engine...
