Which is louder, what is the general agreed route to a loud 500, I had a year old one in the 90s prior to sleeving etc and was always dissapointed with it sound wise.

Think you need to get in touch with Ant on here. He has a fully restored car inside and out with a new engine and to top it all off it is a pre cat so you will get that noise you are after with no issues at mot time.

Absolutely this if your mate cannot afford Ant's Griff.
If his budget is up to £17K, I would seriously recommend suggesting he spends a little more and gets a car that has been fully rebuilt properly, to a very high standard with some lovely modifications and is very well known among the TVR community at large. It is a stunning car that should require no money spent on it in the immediate future and if he wants noise in a Griff, no arguments pre-cats are best and his is among the best of those.
