dump Valve failure on 996tt?

Has anyone had these fail on their Turbos?

I am having a surging problem and have had to be in the office the last few weeks so havnt managed to get the car to the dealer. IHave seen on rennlist that they use Bosch DV's that are renowned for failing.

I don't think the bosch DV's fail anywhere near as much as people say. However, the Billet piston values are much better made and sound great. I would just swap to the billet ones as a preventative measure anyhow. I think they cost around £140 each.

OK so the prob has got loads worse. The surge in revs has now has jumped to about 1500 revs and is now accompanied by that oh so lovely hot clutch smell. So it sees its just the clutch slipping. So I will book it in to be replaced.

Thanks mate. Will hopefully be sorted tomorrow or tuesday if they have to order parts in. I'll be discussing if fitting the kit mentioned in the link Guy put up will invalidate the warranty. If not I'll probably order that in from the states and get it fitted at a later date.

I have been calling round a couple of OPC's and a few specialists. My normal dealer is £1200 to 1300. One specialist I just called wants £1397+vat

I will be kinder to my new clutch, I will be kinder to my new clutch!

Check out EVOMS.COM I had a 996TT a few years ago and had an ECU upgrade which made a big difference. They also do a replacment dump valve + loads of other bits. If you still have your origional shift linkage I would change that too as they are allways breaking and leave you either stuck in 1 gear or unable to select one.

Got a print out from their website and will be discussing the "EVO Billet ShiftLink" with my OPC when I collect the car tomorrow. I will also be making sure it won't affect my warranty.

Talking to the service advisor at my OPC this morning (former porsche mechanic) he advised changing the clutch on a 996 Turbo/GT2 is an engine out job, involving about 10 1/5 hours of labour. Changing the clutch on a C2/4 is not an engine out job though.

Ouch & at only 28k, I'll start being very nice to my clutch from today!
Just remember if you have that chip fitted it may not slip next, simply EXPLODE £££££££!!!
